RIVER FALLS (May 7, 2021) - UW-Stout's
Jacob Bugella and
Noah Zastrow each won individual titles on the first day of the WIAC Men's Track and Field Championship, presented by Culver's, Friday at UW-River Falls' Ramer Field.
Bugella, who is ranked third in all of NCAA Division III in the hammer, won the hammer event by more than eight feet, tossing the implement 198-feet, 1-inch. Bugella is the third Blue Devil to win the hammer throw since 2010 when Sean Larson won the event. Sam Elsner won the event in 2018.
Zastrow has been ranked No. 1 in the pole vault all season long and the senior did not disappoint, winning the event with a height of 17-5.50. Zastrow won the event by almost two feet. The title is Stout's 10th pole vault outdoor championship since 1972, and the school's fourth outdoor pole vault title since 2010.
Zastrow established a conference meet record enroute to winning the pole vault with a height of 17-5 1/2. The previous mark of 17-3 was set by UW-La Crosse's Hans Schmidt in 2003.
Hawkin Petron placed eighth (14-8) in the pole vault,
Jacob Backes was 16th (14-3.25) and
Jacob Tomazevic was 17th (13-9.25).
Matthew Ryan was third in the 10,000-meter in a time of 30-minutes, 50.20-seconds.
Brian Mathews was sixth (31:20.77) and
Eric Neuwirth was 16th (32:20.67).
Ethan Hinderman was 16th in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:03.09).
Zastrow collected additional team points with a fifth place finish in the long jump (22-6.50).
Jack Roeber was sixth (22-1), Petron was 19th (20-11.25) and
Bobby Vang was 25th (19-8.25).
Nate Karau was ninth in the javelin (156-11),
Mason Barth was 11th (148-0),
Nathan Skroch 14th (145-10),
Will Hammen 22nd (120-6) and Anthony Kuehl 23rd (113-10).
After five events of the decathlon,
Brandon Dick was fourth,
Hayden Zachgo fifth and
Mason Barth seventh.
Advancing from the preliminary heats:
Brent Heilman placed eighth in the 100m (10.83) and third in the 200m to advance to the championship round.
Cody Lohrenz placed first in the 400m (48.63),
Trevin Nelson was eighth in the 800m (1:57.66).
Carter Wente was sixth (15.26) and
Noah Beck (15.53) ninth in the 100-hurdles. The top nine advance.
Mackenson Steinberg finished 23rd in the 100m (11.23) and 20th in the 200m (22.86). Also in the 200, Wente was 15th (22.56) and
Keegan Pulchinski was 21st (23.12).
Kory Wiegert was 25th in the 800m (2:02.30). Beck was 10th in the 400-hurdles (59.00)
