THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (4-17, 0-9 WIAC) are scheduled to play three home doubleheaders in a week. Stout will host UW-La Crosse (9-10, 5-4 WIAC), Wednesday, April 28, with the first game a conference game in a make-up from earlier in the month and the second game counting as a non-conference game. Stout will host UW-Oshkosh (15-7, 7-3 WIAC), Friday, April 30 in a conference set of games and will close out the week with a pair of non-conference tilts against UW-Platteville (11-11, 5-5 WIAC), Saturday, May 1.
THE 2021 WIAC SCHEDULE: Teams will play their usual 14-game regular-season league schedule, while the conference tournament has been expanded to eight teams with quarterfinal games between the No. 8 seed/No. 1 seed, No. 7 seed/No. 2 seed, No. 6 seed/No. 3 seed and No. 5 seed/No. 4 seed on May 11. The winning teams will advance to the semifinals on May 13. The quarterfinal and semifinal games will be hosted by the higher seed. The championship will feature the two semifinal winners in a three-game series on May 15 and 16 (if necessary) at the higher seed. The teams will also play several non-conference games among themselves.

PARKING: There is no free parking for weekday baseball & softball games. Regular parking restrictions are strictly enforced. Parking for baseball and softball spectators during weekday games is restricted to on-street parking and in Lot 29. Spectators that park in Lot 29 (located just north of the outdoor track) must pay parking fees and register their license plate at the pay station near the main East entrance of the Sports & Fitness Center. Lot 29 parking restrictions end at 4 pm on Monday through Friday.
DO NOT PARK in Lot 4 during the week. Lot 4 is the parking lot located to the west of the Sports & Fitness Center and north of Don & Nona Williams Stadium (the football stadium).
Lot 4 is only open to the general public from 1 p.m. on Fridays until 9 p.m. on Sundays. There is no general parking in Lot 4 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays and not until 1 pm on Fridays. Team buses may park on the east side (outdoor track side - not the metered side) of 3rd Street East. Parking is permitted in all university lots on weekends.

Bella Anderson make up the remainder of the roster. It was 356 days in between games from when the 2020 season was canceled to when the Blue Devils opened with UW-Superior, Feb. 27. Following a 19-18 overall record in 2019, Stout went 3-1 last season before the season came to a premature end after a pair of games March 8, 2020, in Rosemount, Ill. Practices resumed in the fall in a socially-distanced way and, at the beginning, in pods to keep the numbers down on the field. Indoor practice resumed in late January with the entire team working together.
Becky Iaccino begins her sixth season as the Blue Devil head coach. She is assisted by

AT THE PLATE: Shortstop
Shannon Jones leads the Blue Devils at the plate, hitting .350 (21-60) with three doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI. Jones has also stolen three bases. Outfielder

IN THE CIRCLE: Melea Bruns and
Sommer Kunstmann have taken on the majority of starts, with each starting nine games. Kunstmann has 11 appearances with 43.1 innings pitched and 17 strikeout. Bruns has made11 appearances with 44.1 innings pitched and 12 strikeouts. Sophomore
Mackensie Wolterstorff and junior Maddie Kleinschmidt have come on in relief roles, with Wolterstorff making two starts. Wolterstorff is 1-1 and Kleinschmidt is 2-0, while Bruns is 1-8, and Kunstmann 0-7. Kunstmann leads the team in strikeouts with 17, while Wolterstorff has 16 Ks in 11.2 innings pitched.
BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: Shannon Jones belted an inside-the-park home run in Game Two at UW-Platteville April 24, but UW-Stout came up just short, 5-3, in the nightcap. The Pioneers won the opening game, 5-1. Trailing 5-0 in the second game, Jones sparked all of Stout's scoring in the contest. With
Kelly Beck on second base, Jones smacked the ball over the head of the Pioneer outfielder who dived for the ball in the gusting winds. Before the outfield could recover, Jones had touched all the bases for her second home run of the season. After the initial outburst by the Pioneers, Stout relief pitcher Maddie Kleinschmidt kept the home team at bay the rest of the way. Jones opened the sixth with a double down the left field line, advanced to third when
Kaylee Peterson fouled out, then scored on
Meghan Kelly's single up the middle. Jones was 3 for 3 in the game with two runs scored and two RBI. Kleinschmidt pitched 4.1 innings of scoreless relief ball, scattering four hits, walking one and striking out one. The Pioneers were led by Abby Burns, who went 3 for 4. Rachel Plautz and Danielle Trumbo each drove in a pair of runs. In the opener,
Melea Bruns went the distance and held Platteville scoreless unitl the fifth inning when the Pioneers had a five run outburst. Bruns finsihed the game, giving up eight hits. Stout scored a run on Kelly's RBI double to center field in the seventh.

SCOUTING UW-LA CROSSE: The Eagles are led by Katie Block at the plate. The senior shortstop is hitting .439 (25-57), fifth in the WIAC, with two doubles, two triple and a home run. Kendra Leis is hitting .407 (24-59) and is leading the team in RBI with 12. Allison Oster is the team's leader in home runs with three and is batting .372 (16-43). Sabrina Scardamaglia is hitting .365 (23-63) and leads the team in runs scored with 15. The Eagle's pitchers, Sydne Shattuck and MAddie Muelken, are leading the WIAC in ERA with Shattuck, this week's WIAC pitcher of the week, has an ERA of 1.41 with a 5-1 overall record in 34.2 innings pitched. Muelken has an ERA of 2.07 and a record of 4-6 with 38 strikeouts in 61.0 innings pitched. Elise Weinzierl has started three games, but has come in from the pen eight times and has recorded two saves. |

LAST TIME OUT: La Crosse dropped a non-conference doubleheader to UW-Whitewater Monday afternoon at North Campus Field. The Warhawks took the opener, 3-2 in nine innings, and the nightcap, 11-5. In the opener, La Crosse took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of unearned runs. The Warhawks tied the game in the top of the seventh on a two-out home run from Nikki Mikosz. UW-Whitewater scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the ninth. In the nightcap, UWL took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Lauren Winkler doubled with one out and advanced to third on Nicole Trussoni's two-out single. Both runners scored on Lauren Kidd's double to left field. UW-Whitewater quickly responded in the top of the second to tie the game on back-to-back home runs. Whitewater regained the lead in the fifth with Addante scoring on Delaney Becker's ground out to make it 5-4. The Warhawks scored six runs on two hits and four Eagles' errors in the seventh. |

LAST TIME THEY MET: The teams only got one game in when they met April 10 in La Crosse. With the rains starting in the sixth inning of the first game, the second game was postponed to April 28 in Menomonie.
Shannon Jones gave UW-Stout a 2-0 lead with her first career home run, lifting a shot to left field with
Korin Hall on base, but the Blue Devils fell 4-2 at UW-La Crosse in a WIAC contest April 10. Hall led off the game with a walk and, following an out, Jones lifted the pitch to give Stout the lead. But the Eagles threatened in third inning, but Blue Devil pitcher
Sommer Kunstmann closed out the by getting the third out via a strikeout with the bases loaded. The Eagle tied the game in the fourth inning on an infield RBI single by Katie Block and a sacrifice by Kendra Leis. Block and Leis both recorded their second RBIs of the night with singles to the left side of the diamond. Kunstmann went the distance for the Blue Devils, giving up 12 hits, while surrendering the four runs, of which two were earned. The senior recorded one strikeout and gave up one walk. Jones had three of Stout's four hits, going 3 for 3 with a runs scored and two RBI, along with a stolen base.
Kaylee Peterson had the other hit. La Crosse's top three batters accounted for nine of the 12 hits, with Sabrina Scardamaglia going 3 for 4, Block 4 for 4 and Leis 2 for 3. La Crosse holds a 42-23 advantage in the series that goes back to 1992. |

SCOUTING UW-OSHKOSH: The Titans come into the week in a tie with UW-Eau Claire for first place. Hannah Ritter leads the Titans with a .487 batting average (38-78), with 13 RBI and seven doubles. Natalie Dillon iw hitting .457 (16-35). Kailee Garstecki leads the team in RBI with 17 and is hitting .371 (23-62) with 11 runs scored. Amanda McIhany has 12 RBI and Acacia Tup and Morgan Rau each have 11. In the circle, MAddie Fink and Mia Crotty have each made 10 starts. Fink is 9-2 overall with a 2.46 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 73.2 inning pitched. Crotty is 4-3 overall with 31 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.78 over 60.0 innings pitched. Fink has two saves and Crotty one. |

LAST TIME OUT: The Tttans are scheduled to be at UW-Whitewater, Wednesday, April 28 before coming to Menomonie, April 30. The Titans split a doubleheader with UW-River Falls, April 23, in River Falls, winning the first game, 6-5, but losing the second, 5-3.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Oshkosh came from behind in the first game and struck early in the second game to hand UW-Stout a pair of conference losses, the Blue Devils' first WIAC losses of the season, 5-3, 10-3, April 13, 2019 when the teams met on a neutral site in Whitewater after a snowstorm dumped a foot of snow in Menomonie. |

COACH BECKY IACCINO: Blue Devil coach
Becky Iaccino (84-91 Stout / 102-111 overall) is in her sixth year as the head coach of the Blue Devils with the 2021 season. Iaccino played professionally in Italy
from 2003 to 2011 and with the Italian National team from 2005-07. She has been the head coach at Marian University where she was selected as conference coach of the year, and has eight years of experience as an assistant coach at Division I and Division III programs. (80-74, 98-94 before 2021 season began).
