STOUT IN THE WIAC TOURNAMENT: (updated March 2, 2021) UW-Stout has qualified to the WIAC Championship tournament 17 times and overall is 20-13. Stout is 12-5 in the first round (.706 winning percentage) 4-8 in the semi-finals (.333) and 4-0 in the finals (1.000). The Blue Devils earned the third seed in the East Division in 2021 and played UW-Whitewater, losing 66-49, only the second time Blue Devils and the Warhawks have faced off in the WIAC tournament. The teams met in the first round of the 2006 tournament, a tournament Stout would go on to win. But the eighth-seeded Warhawks gave Stout the closest game in that tournament, a decision Stout took 80-76 in Johnson Fieldhouse, Feb. 20, 2006. The Blue Devils earned the fifth seed in the 2020 WIAC tournament for only the second time in the tournament's history, and Stout lost 68-60 to UW-Oshkosh in 2020 and lost 78-66 to UW-River Falls in 2001 as the fifth seed. Last year was only the second time Stout and Oshkosh met in the first round, with Stout winning, 71-54, during the 2006-07 season in Menomonie and Oshkosh taking a 68-60 decision in Oshkosh during the 2019-20 season. The teams have met twice in the second round, with Oshkosh taking both contests, winning 95-45 in 1999 and 61-58 in last year's second round game. The teams met both times in the championship game, with Stout taking both title games, 90-71, in 2002, and 68-53, in 2005. This is the first time the teams have met in back-to-back tournaments.
Previous to the 2018-19 season, Stout had not participated in the WIAC post-season tournament since the 2015-16 season when they traveled to UW-Stevens Point and lost 55-44 in a first round game. Last season, the Blue Devils hosted a first-round playoff game and defeated UW-Platteville, 81-69, to advance to the second round, then lost at UW-Oshkosh, 61-58. Before last season, Stout had not won a WIAC post-season game since they defeated UW-River Falls, 86-70, in a first round game. Stout has not won two or more games in a conference tournament since winning the tournament during the 2006-07 season. | WIAC Tournament History
