MENOMONIE (December 13, 2016) - Despite shooting less than 25 percent in the first half, UW-Stout stayed in the game at the free throw line, but eventually succumbed to undefeated Gustavus Adolphus College, 69-58, Tuesday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils made five field goals in the first half, including two 3-pointers, and made 11 free throws before halftime. Stout kept up their barrage from the line in the second half, finishing the game by making 26-of-35 free throws.
But the Gusties (10-0) hit second half free throw and finished shooting a stellar 91.3 percent from the line, making 21-of-23 charity shots.
Stout (3-6) tied the game early in the fourth quarter at 43-43, but the Gusties went on a 12-2 run to take a 55-45 lead with 6:54 left. Stout closed the gap to seven a few times.
The Gusties Mikayla Miller led all scorers with 23 points. Miranda Rice tossed in 16 and Kesley Carpenter added 10.
The Blue Devils were led by
Anna Brown's career-high 18 points. Brown was 10-12 from the free throw line.
Bailey Diersen finished with 13 points.
Stout is off until they play two games in the Just A Game Classic in Wisconsin Dells, Dec. 29-30.
