The Duhawks (2-0) led at the end of every quarter, holding a 17-14 first quarter lead, a 35-31 halftime lead, a 53-52 third quarter lead and, of course, the final 79-72 score. | Game Story and Statistics

Bethel (1-2), which received votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, never got closer than 10 points during the remainder of the game. The 96 points scored was the most points in a single game since Stout scored 99 points against UW-Platteville, Feb. 20, 2016. | Game Story and Statistics

Draper added postseason accolades, being named to the D3hoops.com West Region Second Team, Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American Honorable Mention, and CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams.   In 2020-21, the Orange & Black averaged 74.6 points per game, while holding the opponents to 51.8 points per game. The Knights averaged 44.6 rebounds per game, recorded 11 steals per game, and had 17.4 assists per game. Key returners for the Knights include Jaedon Murphy, Sara Faber, Macy Harris, Britney Young, and Hannah Anderson. WHEN STOUT AND WARTBURG LAST MET

  • As it turned out, the lack of free throw opportunities turned into only one of the reasons UW-Stout dropped an 80-56 loss to sixth ranked Wartburg College, Dec. 11, 2019, but it certainly didn't help. It's not that Stout missed a ton of free throws, but the team had only four total free throw attempts in the game, making all four, and did not have an opportunity until the fourth quarter to go to the line. By that time Stout trailed by 20 points and could not get much closer. In the first half with everything else fairly even, the Knights could hardly miss from the free throw line, while the Blue Devils didn't even get the opportunity. Stout was whistled for 11 fouls, while the Knights were not called. Wartburg made Stout pay for their transgressions, dropping in 12 of 13 first half charity shots.  Shannan Watkins had 10 first half points as Stout shot 10 of 29 from the floor and 3 of 15 from beyond the arc. The Knights got 11 points from Amanda Brainerd before the halftime break and the Knights shot 11 of 26 from the floor and 4 of 11 from 3-point range. Stout turned the ball over nine times to four turnovers for Wartburg. Lizzy Olsem led Stout with a career-best 16 points, going 7 of 8 for the game. Olsem had two of Stout's four free throws. Watkins was held scoreless in the second half.  Brainerd and Payton Draper led the Knights with 16 points.  The Knights finished making 15 of 18 free throw attempts for the game.  | Game Story and Statistics

THE SERIES

  • The Blue Devils have yet to beat Wartburg in five tries. The teams first met in the 1979-80 season with Wartburg taking a 71-37 win. The stakes were much higher when the teams played at the end of the 1991-92 season in a first round NCAA tournament game with Wartburg eking out a 92-90 win. The game was Stout's first NCAA tournament game. Wartburg won the last time they met during the 2019-20 season with an 80-56 win. | History

Trine has received over 50 points from their bench in their first two games. |  Statistics

She now has 135 career makes, breaking the record previously held by Sarah Howe. Aside from Bieniewicz's career night, Kelsy Taylor had nine points and six rebounds, while Sam Underhill led the team with eight rounds, three on the offensive end. As a team, Trine held Benedictine to 18-of-52 (34.6%) from the field and just 1-of-13 (7.7%) from long range. | Game Story and Statistics
  • The Thunder won their two games in the Cameron Hospital Classic, defeating Kenyon, 93-33, and Denison, 88-42.
  • The Trine University women's basketball team dominated their home and season-opener on Saturday night with a 93-33 win over Kenyon College. The Thunder were able to win all four quarters by double figures, held the Kenyon Ladies to 26.2% (11-for-42) from the field, forced 29 turnovers and brought in 18 offensive rebounds. | Game Story and Statistics
  • Trine wrapped up action in the Cameron Hospital Classic on Sunday afternoon with an 88-42 win over Denison University. • UW-Stout took a brief lead over sixth-ranked Trine University to start the fourth quarter, but the Thunder recaptured the lead and went on to a 52-46 win at the D3Hoops.com Classic at South Point Arena Thursday. The Blue Devils rebounded from a five point, 23-18, halftime deficit to outscore Trine 13-9 in the third stanza and trailed 32-31 heading into the final period. Lizzy Olsem was a freshman for the Blue Devils that season. Although Olsem played in 21 games that season, she did not play in the Trine game.  | Game Story and Statistics

THE SERIES

  •  Stout and Trine have only met twice, with Trine getting the better of the Blue Devils both times, but by very close margins. In 2001, the Thunder won by three, 66-63, and when they met in 2017, the Thunder snuck by with a six point win. 52-46. | History

  • Hannah Iverson (37-28) is in her fourth year in 2021-22 as the head coach of the Blue Devils.
  • Prior to becoming the Blue Devils' head coach, Iverson was the director of player development for women's basketball at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay, a position she began in October, 2016. As well as working directly with the team, Iverson managed the program's operating budget, coordinated team travel, co-directed summer camps and clinics and handled all aspects of team film. She assisted in the set-up of on-campus recruiting and coordinating official and unofficial visits for potential recruits. Iverson held a similar position - director of basketball operations - at the University of Illinois from 2014-16.
  • Iverson spent two years at NAIA member Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, as an assistant women's basketball coach for the 2012-14 school years. Iverson was in charge of guard development in a season where she helped the Saints to the 2014 Association of Independent Institutions tournament championship, earning Ashford a berth in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship tournament, the first conference title and appearance in the NAIA D-II tournament in Saints history.

Mark Thomas needed to turn around a women's basketball program that had won only two games the previous two seasons before he arrived. Thomas needed 75 games to reach 30 wins, but once he did, he kept building and became the winningest basketball coach in Blue Devil history, both men and women. On the men's side, Ray Johnson needed 59 games to reach 30 wins. Dewey Mintz needed 67 games to reach 30, John Muraski needed 63 and Eddie Andrist needed 59 games.

WARTBURG COLLEGE'S BOB AMSBERRY

  • Bob Amsberry enters his 15th year as head women's basketball coach at Wartburg College in 2020-21 and has established one of the strongest programs in the country. The Knights have advanced to the NCAA tournament for five consecutive years, including the only two trips to the NCAA Final 4 in both 2016 and 2018, and followed those up with an Elite 8 appearance in 2019.
  • After replacing all five starters from the 2018 Final Four team, this past season the Knights finished with a 27-4 overall record, sweeping both the conference regular season and conference tournament titles for the third consecutive year. Wartburg made another strong post-season run before falling in the Elite Eight and finished the year with a No. 7 Final National Ranking.

The Knights were ranked as high as No. 2 in both the WBCA and D3hoops.com polls, which is the highest ranking in program history. The team posted a school-record 31 consecutive victories to start the year before falling in the Final Four and finishing the season 31-1. Amsberry was awarded the prestigious Pat Summit Trophy that year, as he was named the 2017-18 US Marine Corps/WBCA Division III National Coach of the Year. He was also a finalist for the award in both 2016 and 2019. In addition, he has been awarded the Iowa Basketball Coaches' Association Paul Maske Memorial Coach of the Year the past four seasons.
  • Prior to Wartburg, Amsberry resurrected the Rockford College women's basketball program. In the midst of a national record 70-game losing streak when he was named head coach in 1997, the Regents posted one of the best turnarounds in NCAA history and an NCAA tournament bid in just his fourth season. Over the course of his nine-year tenure as head coach, the Regents won the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference regular season and tournament titles three times and were awarded four bids to the Division III NCAA tournament. He earned four NIIC Coach of the Year honors and was also named Illinois Basketball Coaches' Association Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2006.
