UW-Stout 76, UW-Superior 44
SUPERIOR (November 9, 2021) - By halftime, nine UW-Stout players had scored the Blue Devils had more than doubled up UW-Superior. There was more of the same in the second half as Stout went on to a 76-44 season-opening win at Mertz Gymnasium Tuesday.
The Blue Devils (1-0) led 40-18 and
Anna Mutch, last year's WIAC Newcomer of the Year, had scored eight of her game-high 15 points and had not not missed a shot, in addition to pulling down four rebounds, two assists and three steals in only seven minutes of play.

Raegan Sorensen and
Sydney Jahr scored their first collegiate points before halftime.
Stout never trailed, from the time Lizzy Olsen scored less than 30 seconds into the game, Stout built up a 21-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Stout hit 9 of 13 first quarter shots to shoot 69.2 percent and "cooled down" to shot 50 percent for the half (16-32) from the floor.
Thirteen different Stout players scored and all players suited up saw the floor, many for the first time in their first collegiate game.
Mutch led all players with 15 points, hitting 7 of 9 from the floor, finishing one rebound short of a double-double with nine boards Mutch had two assists and a game-high four steals. .
Olsem scored 10 points,
Paityn Tiefs scored eight points - hitting two 3-pointers - and Giesen and Sorensen finished with seven points. Stout shot 50 percent for the game, hitting 31 of 62 field goals. The Blue Devils drained 6 of 14 3-pointers (42.9 percent) and made 8 of 16 from the line.
Stout out-rebounded Superior 43-30, with
Sam Schaeffer adding six rebounds to Mutch's nine. Stout forced 22 Yellowjacket turnovers and committed 13 turnovers.
The Yellowjackets shot 28.0 percent from the field (14-50), hitting 36.4 percent of their 3-pointers (4-11( and 80.0 percent of their free throws (12-15). Kaelyn Christian scored 14 points to lead Superier. Allie Zimmer came off the bench to score eight points. Makena Guden had seven rebounds.
Stout will return to action at the Loras College Tip-Off, in Dubuque, Iowa, Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13. Stout will play Loras Friday at 7 p.m. and Bethel University, Saturday at 2 p.m.
