COLFAX (November 13, 2021) - All seven UW-Stout runners clocked their best time on the Whitetail Golf Course as the Blue Devils finished sixth at the NCAA Division III North Regional Saturday.
The Blue Devils, who came into the regional ranked seventh, were led by
Spencer Schultz's 10th place finish in a time of 24-minutes, 52.64. The time was also the best time for Schultz on an 8-kilometer course and the first time he broke 25 minutes, earning the junior all-region status for the second time. Schultz ran a time of 25:07 at the 2019 regional when Schultz placed 12th.
Matthew Ryan placed 40th in a time of 25:33.66.
Ethan Hinderman was 54th (25:51.09),
Grant Magnuson 55th (25:52.12),
Mitchell Popp 75th (26:06.15) and
Cale Bishop 78th (26:12.02).Â
Stout competed three times at Whitetail this season - at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational Oct. 1, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships Oct. 30Â and the North Regional today.
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) teams took five of the top six spots, with UW-Whitewater edging out UW-La Crosse by one point for the top spot. UW-Oshkosh was third, UW-Eau Claire fourth and Stout sixth. St. Olaf College finished fifth.
The winning North Regional team will secure an automatic berth into the Division III Championship that will be held next Saturday, Nov. 20, at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The 32-team meet will also include nine other regional champions and 22 at-large selections.Â
Individually, the top seven finishers from each region not on one of the team qualifiers will also earn an invitation to the national championship.
The top 35 finishers at the Division III North Regional will receive all-region status. Team and individual qualifiers will be announced this Sunday onÂ
