Cross Country teams to compete at NCAA North Regional meet Saturday

MENOMONIE (November 12, 2021) - The UW-Stout men's and women's cross country programs are set to compete at the 2021 NCAA Division III North Regional at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Saturday, Nov. 13. The meet is hosted by UW-Eau Claire. The NCAA made changes to the cross country regions and this will be UW-Stout's first year in the North Regional.

The Blue Devil men come into the meet ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Division III men's regional poll published by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The men's meet will feature six teams that are ranked in the top 35 nationally.

UW-La Crosse is ranked eighth nationally, UW-Whitewater (10th), Carleton College (15th), St. Olaf College (24th), UW-Oshkosh (27th) and UW-Eau Claire (29th). Stout received one national vote. 

The Stout men finished fifth at the 2019 NCAA regional, the last year the meet was contested due to the cancellation of the 2020 season, and qualified to the NCAA Division III National Men's Cross Country Championship for the third consecutive year. 

The Blue Devils ran twice at Whitetail Golf Course in October, finishing sixth of 27 teams at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational Oct. 1, and finished fifth at the WIAC Championships, Oct. 30. 

On the women's side, the Stout women placed 14th of 35 teams at the 2019 regional event. Stout placed ninth of 27 teams at the 2021 Blugold Invitational and were fifth at the 2021 WIAC Championship

The Blue Devil women come into the regional meet ranked eighth. The North Regional will feature six top 35 teams. UW-La Crosse is ranked eighth nationally, followed by UW-Eau Claire (18th), St. Olaf College (19th), Carleton College (20th), UW-Oshkosh (32nd) and UW-Stevens Point (35th). 

Temperatures are expected to be in the low-to-mid 30s Saturday and skies are expected to be partly cloudy. 

The meet will feature over 300 runners for both the men's and women's race. The day will begin with the men's race at 12 p.m. and the women's race will follow at 1 p.m. To view the entries, course maps, directions and more, check out the regional website.

The 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20 in Louisville, Ky. Spalding University is the host school.
