THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (8-3-1, 1-0-0 WIAC) will host Bethel University (5-5-0, 3-2-0 MIAC), Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. to wrap up a four-game homestand in their final non-conference game of the season, then return to conference play by traveling to UW-Oshkosh (8-2-0, 1-0-0 WIAC), Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. Stout was ranked fourth in the Sept. 28 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Region IX rankings.

A LOOK AT THE 2021 BLUE DEVILS: The Blue Devils opened the conference season with an overtime 2-1 win over UW-Platteville, Oct. 1, when Marissa Steele scored with less than two minutes remaining in the first overtime period for the win. Steele is the Blue Devils' points leader, tallying a career-best four goals and five assists. Steele is not afraid to shoot the ball, taking 31 overall shots and 17 shots on goal. Steele's four goals in 12 games is 10th in the WIAC and her five assists is tied for first. Lexi Boyd is Stout's goals leader with five, ranking fifth in the WIAC. Liv Winkler has four goals and one assist. Remy Soulak, Carly Kauffman and Caylee Boone each have three assists, tied for seventh in the WIAC. Soulak and Kauffman each have two goals. Rachel Younker and Hailey Kane each have one goal and one assist. A LOOK AT BETHEL UNIVERSITY: The Royals opened their conference season with a 3-1 win over Hamline University and a 1-0 win over Macalester College, two teams that have beaten Stout this season, but also lost to St. Scholastica, a team Stout handily defeated. Rachel Waterman, Lauren Davis and Kelsey Bergan have each scored three goals this season. Davis has put 11 shots on frame this year and has taken a team-best 28 overall shots. She has two game winning goals. Izzy Smith has started 10 games for the Royals, with a 5-5-0 record and a goals against average of 1.70. | Season Statistics
THE ROYALS LAST TIME OUT: Bethel was kept off the the scoreboard falling to the MIAC's newest competitor, College of St. Scholatica, Saturday at Ona Orth Athletic Complex. On the stats sheet, Bethel outshot the competition 29-17, but lost the shots on goal battle narrowly 11-10. Wet playing conditions with a light drizzle added to scoreless tie at the break putting Bethel in a good spot while outshooting the Saints 13-9 in the first 45 minutes. On the defensive side of things, the Royals held strong as Izzy Smith had six of her 10 saves come in the first half. The Saints broke the scoreless tie in the 47th minute with the one and only goal of the competition. BU had its chances to tie, outshooting the Saints 16-8 in the second half, but a tip of the cap to the Saints goalkeeper who made five saves during that stretch. | Game Story and Stats
THE LAST TIME BETHEL AND STOUT MET: UW-Stout limited Bethel University to one goal, but the Bethel defense kept the Blue Devils off the scoreboard and handed Stout a 1-0 loss Sept. 7, 2019. Bethel's Sophie Kendall scored the Royal's goal with an assist from Lauren Davis in the 30th minute of play. Bethel out-shot Stout 16-4, giving the Blue Devil's goalkeeper Claudia Anderson a total saves count of eight to the Royals' goalkeeper Kaylee Peterson who had one save. | Game Story and Stats

A LOOK AT UW-OSHKOSH: Rylie Kauffman, Mallory Knight and Piper Green have each scored five goals to pace the Titans. Kauffman also has four assists. Alexis Poulos has four goals. Alyana Clark has five asissts. Erin Toomey has worked eight games with a 6-2 record, with four shutouts and a goals against average of 0.74. THE TITANS LAST TIME OUT: The Titans are scheduled to host UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Oct. 6. Piper Green and Mallory Knight scored second-half goals as visiting UW-Oshkosh opened its seven-match WIAC women's soccer schedule with a 2-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday. The Titans trailed the Blugolds (5-4-2, 0-1), 1-0, before Green tied the score with her 13-yard volley off a corner kick from Riley Kaufmann during the contest's 56th minute (55:30) of activity. Green's goal was her fifth of the season. UW-Oshkosh tallied its decisive goal on Knight's 14-yard kick in the 73rd minute (72:40). Knight's fifth goal of the year and 50th career point followed a pass from Molly Jackson. Eau Claire took a 1-0 lead to intermission on Megan Hansen's goal, a 12-yard kick, in the 27th minute (26:50). Hansen's fourth goal of season was assisted by Lola Ruff. Oshkosh, which has allowed just seven goals and 76 shots this season, was again relentless on defense as it held UW-Eau Claire without a shot over the final 72 minutes of action. The Blugolds were limited to four shots, all by Hansen, and four corner kicks. Oshkosh's 13 shots for the match included four by Knight, three by Green and two by Maddie Hill. The Titans launched four shots in the first half and nine in the second. THE LAST TIME UW-OSHKOSH AND STOUT MET: Oshkosh's Rylie Kaufmann scored in the 68th minute to lift the Titans to a 1-0 win over UW-Stout Oct. 12, 2019, at snowy and misty Ramer Field in River Falls. The Titans outshot Stout, 20-3 overall. Stout's Claudia Anderson recorded 12 saves. The game was the fourth game this season Anderson allowed one goal or less. The Titans' Madelyn Runyan recorded no saves on the day. Despite the large disparity in shots, the teams were nearly even in corner kicks with Oshkosh getting four to Stout's three. Stout, playing with only three bench players and no true back-up goalkeeper due to injury, got two shots from Rachel Washington and one shot by Rachel Younger. AWARDS: 2021: Marissa Steele was the WIAC/Kwik Trip athlete of the week and the UW-Stout athlete of the week, Sept. 14, after scoring two game winning goals against St. Scholastica and Cornell College...Liv Winkler was the UW-Stout athlete of the week after scoring a goal in each of the first two games of the season, including the game winner in the season opener against Concordia-Moorhead.

UW-STOUT COACH RYAN RAUFUS: Coach Ryan Raufus (68-88-20) is in his 11th year as the head coach of the Blue Devils in 2021. Raufus played his college ball at Springfield College in Massachusetts and came to Stout after coaching at La Crosse Logan High School and La Crescent, Minn., High School.
TWENTY-FIVE-PLUS YEARS OF BLUE DEVIL SOCCER: After many years as a club sport, UW-Stout became the ninth WIAC team to join the varsity ranks during the 1995 season. The Blue Devils took their lumps to open the season, making their premiere by hosting Augsburg College, Sept. 10, in a 7-0 loss. Stout opened the conference season three days later at Nelson Field, hosting perennial conference powerhouse UW-Stevens Point, dropping a 6-0 decision. The Blue Devils finally broke onto the scoreboard in their third game. While hosting UW-Platteville, Sept. 17, Kari Stapleton scored in the 70th minute on an assist from Jenny Tyson in a 2-1 loss. The Blue Devils would get their first-ever win, a 3-0 decision at Martin Luther College, Sept. 23, collecting goals from Amie Frasier, Tyson and Joann Sognesand. Defender Andrea Schroeder was a second team all-conference selection in 1995, then was selected to the first team in 1996.
