MENOMONIE (July 16, 2020) - The UW-Stout women's and men's track and field teams extended their respective academic streaks when both teams were selected to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams. Two members of the Blue Devil women's team and one member of the men's team received individual All-Academic honors.
The Blue Devil women's team extended their streak to 13 straight years of earning the award, while the men's program pushed their streak to eight consecutive years. Teams must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.10 to receive the award. The women's team cumulative GPA was 3.408, while the men's team was 3.306. The men's team topped the conference for the sixth consecutive year..
Individual selections for the Blue Devils include:
Heather Beecher (Sr, Gladwin, Mich),
Mackenzie Huber (Fr, Colby) and
Noah Zastrow (Jr, Spencer). Zastrow in a Mechanical Engineering major, Beecher an Applied Science major and Huber an Early Childhood Education major. This is Zastrow's and Beecher's third time being selected to the honors team. It was Huber's first selection.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards: 1) Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship. 2) Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA. Washington, Mo., University received named Men's Scholar Team of the Year for the indoor season and Middlebury College women took the women's indoor honors..
A total of 325 men and 477 women earned USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic honors during the 2019-20 track & field seasons.
A total of 359 Division III teams (209 women's, 150 men's) were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA.
