Cross country teams to compete at regional meet Saturday

MENOMONIE (November 14, 2019) - The UW-Stout men's and women's cross country programs are set to compete at the 2019 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Saturday, Nov. 16. The meet is hosted by UW-Oshkosh.

The Blue Devil men come into the meet ranked 31st in the latest NCAA Division III men's poll published by the USTFCCCA. The Blue Devils will be joined by five other Midwest Region teams that are ranked in the top 35 of the national poll, including the top ranked team in the country. Stout is ranked fifth in the Midwest Region.

North Central College is the top ranked team in the country, followed by eighth ranked Washington (Mo) University. The University of Chicago is ranked 10th, UW-La Crosse 13th and UW-Eau Claire 33rd.

The Stout men last season finished fifth at the NCAA regional and qualified to the NCAA Division III National Championship for the second consecutive year. 

The Blue Devils ran at Lake Breeze in October, finishing seventh of 34 teams at the UW-Oshkosh-hosted Kollege Town Sports Invitational. The national championship last season was held at Lake Breeze. The Blue Devil men placed second at the 2019 WIAC Championship earlier this month near Platteville. 

On the women's side, the Stout women placed fifth at the 2019 WIAC Championship and were 18th at the Kollege Town Invitational. The Stout women last season placed sixth at the Midwest Regional.

The regional will have five top 35 teams. Second-ranked Washington University leads the way, followed by Chicago (7th), Eau Claire (11th), La Crosse (15th) and Wheaton College (29th). 

Weather is expected to break to provide a bit of a break from the sub-freezing temperatures this weekend. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-to-upper 30s over the weekend and skies are expected to be partly cloudy. 

The meet will feature over 300 runners for both the men's and women's race. The day will begin with the men's race at 11:15 a.m. (ET) and the women's will follow at 12:15 p.m. (ET). To view the entries, course maps, directions and more, check out the regional website.

The 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23 in Louisville, Ky. Spalding University is the host school.
