Heptathlon results

Andrew Gilles was part of two first place finishes as UW-Stout hosted the Warren Bowlus Open Saturday at the Sports and Fitness Center.
Andrew Gilles topped a field of 30 in the 800-meter run with a time of 1-minute, 57.56-seconds teamed up with and
Cody Lohrenz,
Ross Thompson and
Brent Heilman to win the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:29.15.
Sam Elsner toyed with the school record book in the weight throw, coming up just a little over two inches short of the school record in winning the event. Elsner hit a distance of 62-3, just short of Mike Lihrman's mark of 62-5.25. Elsner was second in the shot put in 55-4.25 which was just short of Jason Lehman's 20-year-old school record of 56-0.

Josh Freyholtz won the pole vault with a height of 15-1.
Stout will be at the Bethel University Gene Glader Invitational, Saturday, Feb. 3 starting at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul, Minn.

Distance
- Mike Friedman was fourth in the 3000-meter run in a time of 8:40.48. Zach Zimmerman was 10th (8:50.28), Trevor Blum 11th (8:51.10), Nick Zolendek 14th (8:56.73), Mike Fifield 16th (9:00.37) and Dan Ressler 18th (9:01.95). Forty-three runners competed.
Relays
- Stout had four teams entered in the 4x400-relay. In addition to taking the top spot the team of Radtke, Wouters, Klavekoske, and Houghton were fourth (3:36.02), the team of Jack Hoaby, Wilkerson, Plenge and Isaac Seibold was 10th (3:41.62) and the team of Steinberg, Isaac Lee, Harty and Rosenlund placed 12th (3:48.04).
Jumps
- Robert Mesenburg matched Freyholtz's mark of 15-1 in the pole vault, but finished second on misses. Jack Kolar and Brenden Buryska were sixth and seventh, respectively, with a mark of 13-7.25. Aric Varani was ninth (13-1.50).
- Lee was eighth in the long jump (19-7) and Jack Kolar 12th (18-9.75).
- Freyholtz was Stout's top finisher in the triple jump, finishing third (42-8). Lee was fifth (40-6.75).
Throws
- Elsner was second in the shot put (55-4.25). Anton Proksch was fourth (46-3.50) and Kevin Ruechel was seventh (42-5.25).
- Elsner dominated the weight throw, going nearly 10 feet further than second place finisher Gunnar Melin of Augsburg (52-9.25). Proksch finished third (51-9). Team captain Duncan Magerl was sixth (48-8.75), Ruechel was seventh (47-10), Alec Benzinger ninth (45-1.75) and Jacob Bugelle 17th (38-5).
Hepthathlon
- Freshmen Alex Grulkowski and Noah Zastrow both performed their first collegiate heptathlon. Grulkowski finished sixth with 4404 points and Zastrow finished with 4280 points.
