THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION: The Blue Devils will host
UW-Eau Claire and
Hamline Univeristy in the 12th annual John Zuerlein Invitational, Friday, Feb. 7 begining at 6 p.m. This will be the third meeting between Stout and Hamline, the second between Hamline and Eau Claire and the first between Stout and Eau Claire.
THE BLUE DEVILS: The 2014 Blue Devil squad was scheduled to return all five performers who advanced to the NCGA Championship last spring, but an injury just before the start of the competitive season has taken three-time All-American

Randi Schorzman. DeZiel and Schorzman returned home with All-America honors, Schorzman on the balance beam. As a team, the Blue Devils have improving their team scores every time out, starting off with a 176.925 in their season opener, Jan. 11, and in their third outing nearly broke 180, tallying a 179.600 at UW-Whitewater. Stout has broken 180 their last two meets, scoring a 180.550 at home, Jan. 28, then jumped up nearly two points four days later when they won their first dual meet of the season, 182.325-180.425, at Hamline University, Jan. 31. Prouty is posting Stout's top scores on the vault (9.575) and the balance beam (9.300). Perez, who advanced to the NCGA Championship last spring, leads Stout on the uneven bars (9.375). Jondahl leads Stout on the floor exercise (9575). Christensen, who advanced to the national meet last year, is posting Stout's second best scores on the beam (9.250) and floor (9.525). |

LAST TIME OUT: Led by a sweep on the balance beam, UW-Stout defeated Hamline University, 182.325-180.425, Friday at Hamline. The score was Stout's top team score of the season.
Katherine Prouty led the way on the balance beam with a 9.30.
Natasha Hansen and
Randi Schorzman tied for second with a 9.225. Hansen's score was a personal best.
Sara Perez captured the uneven bars with a score of 9.375, while Prouty was second at 9.225. Prouty took second on the vault (9.575) and
Kaylee Jondahl set a personal best on the event with a third place finish of 9.525. Jondahl was second on the floor exercise with a 9.525. Prouty was second in the all-around with a score of 36.825.. |

UW-EAU CLAIRE: The Blugolds have won their last two duals, and finished ahead of defending national champion UW-Whitewater in a triangular Jan. 11 in Eau Claire. Winona State won the meet (184.425), but Eau Claire (183.90) slipped past Whitewater (182.950). Eau Claire finished fifth at the NCGA Championship the last two seasons, their best finishes since the 2005 season. Eau Claire finished third in the WIAC for past two years. Coach Jean DeLisle was named WIAC Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013. Three All-Americans return for Blugolds this season, including Michaela McCamey-Metropulos, who won the national title on the balance beam in 2012. She is currently second on the 2014 WIAC honor roll (9.700). Elizabeth Stubbs is tops in the WIAC with a 9.750 on the floor exercise and Julia Stedman is third at 9.70. Â |
2014 Statistics
HAMLINE UNIVERSITY: The Pipers broke 180 in their first two meets of the season, then slipped back to a 177 in their last time out, a dual loss to UW-Eau Claire, Jan. 24. Topping the returnees are senior All-Americans Courtney Benson and Kambria Blakely. Benson won the Floor Exercise at the NCGA Championships last March. She also finished eighth in the All-Around competition and will enter 2014 as one of the top Division III gymnasts in the country. Benson is currently topping the WIAC honor roll in the all-around with a 37.925. Benson is currently second in the WIAC in the all-around with a 37.925. Blakely and Benson share all of Hamline's top individual scores, Blakely on the vault (9.600), and Benson on the bars (9.225(, beam (9.525), floor (9.725) and all-around (37.925).

THE COACHES: UW-Stout: Becky Beaulieu begins her ninth season as the Blue Devil coach. Under Beaulieu's direction, UW-Stout gymnasts have earned 28 All-American awards and Beaulieu has coached national champions on the balance beam in 2008, the floor exercise in 2009, the uneven bars in 2010 and the vault and floor exercise in 2011. A UW-Stout gymnast has qualified and competed at the NCAA Division I regionals in 2009 at the University of Iowa and in 2010 at the University of Utah. Beaulieu, competing as Becky McDonnell at UW-La Crosse from 1997-2001, captured back-to-back NCGA floor exercise titles in 1998 and 1999. She established a since-eclipsed school floor exercise record score of 9.8. A seven-time NCGA All-American, she also garnered all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors nine times. The Eagles, for which she was a two-year captain, won two NCGA titles during her competing days. In 2012, Beaulieau was selected to the WIAC All-Time Gymnastics Team as the conference celebrated their 100th anniversary. |Â

Doug Byrnes is in his 14th season as the head coach of the Pipers.Â
UW-Eau Claire:
Jean DeLisle is in her 10th year with the Blugolds and for 10 seasons before that was the head coach at UW-River Falls. Assistant coach Scott Gay was the UW-Stout women's head coach in 1994. Gay is in his first year as an assistant at Eau Claire.
WIAC AND NCGA: The
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) is made up of eight schools - UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stout, UW-Whitewater, Hamline University, Gustavus Adolphus College and Winona State University. These eight schools make up the NCGA West Region and are also members of the 15-school
National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA). The other seven schools are: SUNY-Brockport, SUNY-Cortland, Ithaca (NY) College, Springfield (Mass) College, Rhode Island College, Ursinus (Pa) College and Wilson (Pa) College.
DOWN THE ROAD: Stout will close out the home portion of their season when they host Gustavus Adolphus College, Friday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m.
