More about Kristen Barra

Why did you choose UW-Stout?: I transfered from Northern Illinois University for the chance to do collegiate gymnastics. It felt like home on my first visit here.

Something you may not know about me: I have an unhealthy obsession with anything Nike...I hate odd numbers... I refuse to ride the elevator in the fieldhouse because the one time I rode it, I got stuck in it...I never take off my livestrong or blue crew bracelet because it represents my goals and commitment to being a student athlete...i am refusing graduation until the team goes to nationals.

Started gymnastics at age: I was in a preschool class at age 3, but then my mom didn't think I liked it so she took me out (...really?). Then I started at age 7.

What is your nickname?: KB, Barack O'Barra, Squints, and Full Throttle

My favorite sporting event, other than UW-Stout gymnastics: UW-Stout football and hockey, and any kind of gymnastics that I can watch.

My favorite food: pineapple and spaghetti squash

If I were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would I take with me? my friends, music, and a plane to take home when I get bored.

My favorite gymnasts are: Terin Humphrey, Alicia Sacramone, Courtney Kupets, Courtney McCool, Brittani McCullough, Shawn Johnson, Dominique Moceanu, Jaycie Phelps, and obviously Meghan Hargens.

My most funny, memorable Stout gymnastics story: dancing on the bus on the way to meets (especially regionals on the "party bus"), and pranking Becky's office all the time. Ex. Laying in the bed of her truck after we got back from a meet late and jumping out when she went to unlock the door. Filling the office with balloons.

Community Service/Volunteer Activities: St. Thomas Church nursery, St. Jude, Children's Miracle Network, Special Olympics, and Habitat for Humanity

This offseason, I worked on: sheep jumps on beam and lots of cardio/strength workouts - such as insanity or boot camp - at FlipFest Camp

I look up to: my parents, my bosses John Macready and John Roethlisberger, Meghan Hargens, and anyone who has helped me out along the way.
