University of Iowa 195.30, UW-Stout 183.20
IOWA CITY, Iowa (February 13, 2011) - Plotting UW-Stout's gymnastics scores on a graph through the first five meets of the season has shown a steady increase in team scores. Sunday's meet at the University of Iowa was no exception as the young Blue Devil improved their score for the sixth straight meet in a dual loss to the Hawkeyes, 195.30-183.20.
The team score is just short of the school record of 183.825 set during the 2008-09 season.
Individually, the Division I Hawkeyes took the top five spots in every event with the exception of the balance beam and floor exercise.
Naomi DeLara (Sr, Kaulaui, Hawaii) set a school balance beam record with a mark of 9.85 in finishing second. DeLara broke her own school record of 9.825, a mark she set last season. DeLara finished fifth on the floor exercise of 9.675. DeLara was the Blue Devils' top finisher on the three events she competes in, placing seventh on the vault with a mark of 9.60.
As a team, Stout neared the school record by finishing less than one point short on each of the appartus, Stout scored a 46.150 (47.075 school record) on the vault, a 44.95 (45.30) on the uneven bars, a 45.90 (46.625) on the balance beam and a 46.225 (47.15) on the floor exercise.
On the vault, all six Blue Devil competitors finished with a 9.00 or above, the first time the team has done that this season.
Brittany DeZiel (Fr, Rogers, Minn) competed as an all-arounder for the first time since the first meet of the season, and set a career-high on the vault (9.25) and finished with a 34.775, improving on her only other all-around score.
Jenna Lensing (So, Little Canada, Minn) was sixth on the balance beam with a season-best 9.150. Lensing set a career-best in the all-around with a 36.45, Stout's top all-around score of the season.
