THIS WEEK IN BLUE DEVIL ATHLETICS: March 23-29

MEN'S ICE HOCKEY

The UW–Stout men's hockey team defeated No. 5 Utica 5-1 in the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals, advancing to their first Frozen Four since the 2008-09 season.

After a 1-1 tie following the first period, Stout scored twice, with goals from Hayden Stocks and Nicolas Pigeon. Goaltender Sebastian Monaco made 46 saves. Nicholas Stevens scored an empty-net goal with four minutes remaining, and Evan Luxford added a breakaway goal shortly after to seal the victory.

The Blue Devils will now face No. 1 Hobart in the Frozen Four on March 27 at 7 p.m. ET at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, N.Y.

SOFTBALL

The Blue Devils concluded their Spring Break trip to Clermont, Fla., finishing 3-3 to end the trip with a 7-5 record.

Stout defeated Hartwick College and SUNY Morrisville by identical 9-0 scores. The Blue Devils fell to Chicago 9-1, Meredith 3-2, and Coe College 16-2 before closing the trip with a 12-2 win over SUNY Geneseo.

Elly Holden hit .533 (8-15) with an on-base percentage of .566 and a slugging percentage of 1.067, adding 8 RBIs and 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 3 triples, and 3 stolen bases in six games during the Florida Spring Break trip. Against Geneseo, she went 4-4 with 6 RBIs and two triples, just one home run shy of the cycle (her second triple landed at the base of the wall). She went 2-2 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored, including another triple against Morrisville State.

Stout will travel to Duluth on Saturday, March 28, for a doubleheader with the College of St. Scholastica, starting at 1 p.m. at Kenny Harkins Field.

BASEBALL

The Blue Devils dropped a game to St. John's but responded by winning four straight to close out their Florida Spring Break Trip. 

Austin Miller went 8-21 (.381) with an on-base percentage of .435 and a slugging percentage of .762, while adding 5 RBI and 6 runs scored with two doubles and two home runs in five games to help Stout go 4-1. He hit the game-tying home run in the bottom of the 8th against Ripon. Against Macalester, he went 3-6 with 3 runs scored, 2 doubles, and 2 RBI.

Stout will play the College of St. Scholastica today at 1 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn. They will then open WIAC play this weekend with a four-game series against UW-Platteville on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29 in Platteville, Wis.

LACROSSE

The Blue Devil lacrosse team will host a pair of games this week, welcoming North Central (Ill.) on Wednesday, March 25 at 5 p.m., and will open WIAC play on Saturday with a 12 p.m. game against UW-La Crosse.

TENNIS

The Blue Devils played four matches in Orlando, Fla., over spring break. Stout topped Western Connecticut State 7-0 and Webster 6-1, but fell to Division II Shippensburg 6-1 and Bethel 7-0.

Stout will host a pair of home matches on Saturday, March 28.

WOMEN'S GOLF

The Blue Devils will open the spring portion of their 2025-26 season at the WashU Spring Invite on Sunday, March 29, at the Crown Pointe Golf Club in Farmington, Missouri.
