THIS WEEK IN BLUE DEVIL ATHLETICS: March 2-8

MEN'S ICE HOCKEY

The No. 11 and 2026 WIAC regular season champion Blue Devil hockey team defeated the No. 5 seed, UW-Stevens Point, 1-0, in the WIAC Men's Ice Hockey Tournament/Commissioner's Cup (Presented by Culver's) semifinals on Saturday night.

Noah Tyrrell scored with 6:31 remaining, and Sebastian Monaco made 25 saves, including six in the final 1:22, to secure the shutout. 

Stout advances to its first WIAC tournament championship game and will face the No. 3 seed, UW-River Falls, on Saturday, March 7, at 7 p.m. at Fanetti Community Center.

The game will be live-streamed on the WIAC Network, which will implement pay-per-view for its conference championships and tournaments.

TRACK & FIELD

The Blue Devil Track and Field team competed at the WIAC Championships. 

Leah Zastrow claimed the WIAC championship in the pole vault, clearing 4.02m to set both a meet and facility record.

 Patrik Dortch captured the WIAC championship in the triple jump, winning the event with a mark of 14.32m. Matthew Binstock followed closely in second place at 14.27m to earn 2nd-team All-WIAC honors. 

The Blue Devils will compete at the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier next Saturday, March 7 at the Hetzel Fieldhouse in La Crosse.

GYMNASTICS

The UW-Stout Blue Devils delivered one of their strongest performances of the season Friday night at the Kolf Sports Center, posting a season-high team total of 189.525 in a dual meet against the top-ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans. 

Stout had an historic showing on vault, scoring a 48.175 – the second-highest vault total in program history. 

Kendra Henige scored season bests on vault (9.700) and floor (9.625). 

The Blue Devils now head towards postseason competition next weekend at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional on March 7 in Winona, Minn.

LACROSSE

The Blue Devil lacrosse team defeated MSOE 14-8 to earn their first win of the season.

Mai Nou Vang tallied six goals on eight shots and added an assist. She also recorded a career-high nine draw controls. Vang scored two goals in the first quarter to help the Blue Devils to an early 3-0 lead. She added an assist in the second quarter to give Stout a 6-2 lead at halftime. She completed the hat trick early in the third quarter and netted her fourth goal a minute later. She scored her fifth goal and third of the quarter to give Stout a 10-5 advantage. She capped off the double hat trick less than five minutes into the fourth quarter.

Emilia Bullock made a season-high 14 saves on 22 shots (63.6% save %), and added seven ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Stout will be in action next weekend when they travel to Iowa for a matchup with Mount Mercy University on March 6, followed by a game with Saint Ambrose on March 7.

TENNIS

The Blue Devils tennis team will open their spring season with a match against St. Norbert College at the Green Bay Tennis Center in De Pere, Wis., on Saturday, March 7. First serve is set for 12:30 p.m.
