This Week in Blue Devils Athletics: Jan. 5-11

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Blue Devils opened WIAC play with a 72-63 home loss to UW-Platteville. 

Gavin Johnson was 4-8 from 3-point range for 14 points. Wesley Mboga scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds. 

Stout will host UW-River Falls on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 7:05 p.m. at the Johnson Fieldhouse. The Blue Devils will then travel to Eau Claire, Wis. on Saturday, Jan. 10 to face the Blugolds at 5:05 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Blue Devils opened WIAC play with an 82-69 loss at RV UW-Platteville.

Addy Verhagen averaged 10 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals in three games for the Blue Devils. She scored 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists, shooting 40% (6-15) against Dubuque. She added six rebounds and four assists in a win over Loras. She then shot 55.6% against Platteville, scoring 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists. She leads the WIAC and is 17th in the nation in total assists and 25th in the nation with 4.8 assists per game.

The Blue Devils will travel to River Falls on Wednesday, Jan. 7, to face the Falcons at Don Page Arena at 7:05 p.m. Stout will then return home to host UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 10. Tip-off from the Johnson Fieldhouse is set for 3:05 p.m.

MEN'S ICE HOCKEY

The Blue Devil hockey team improved to 9-2-1 and is ranked 13th in the DIIIHockeyNews Poll and 15th in the USCHO.com Poll. Stout scored the final four goals of the game to defeat #3 St. Norbert 6-4 in De Pere. The team then completed the season sweep of UW-River Falls with a 4-2 win at Hunt Arena.

Kullan Daikawa scored two goals to help Stout to a weekend road sweep over St. Norbert and River Falls. He scored a power-play goal against #3 St. Norbert in the second period to draw Stout within a goal at 3-4. Then he scored the game-winning goal in the second period and was a +3 against River Falls.

Stout will host Saint Mary's (MN) on Tuesday, January 6, for a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Fanetti Community Center.

The Blue Devils will then travel to Minneapolis, Minn. on Friday, January 9, to face Augsburg, and then head to Moorhead, Minn. to face Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday, January 10. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. both nights.

WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS

The University of Wisconsin-Stout gymnastics team began the 2026 season with a third-place finish at the UW-Oshkosh Quad Meet on Saturday at the Kolf Sports Center. Host UW-Oshkosh won the event with a total of 192.100, followed by Winona State (189.575) and Greenville (184.700).

Jessica Qualich won the vault with a 9.650 and scored a 9.450 on the floor. Kaylie Kassing led the Blue Devils on the floor exercise with a 9.675, tying for sixth.

The Blue Devils return to action next Saturday, January 10, when they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, to compete in the Ameritas Master's Classic hosted by the University of Nebraska. Also competing will be the University of Missouri and UW-La Crosse.
