Tim Wagner Named Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

MENOMONIE – The University of Wisconsin-Stout head men's basketball Tom Webb is thrilled to announce the hiring of Tim Wagner as assistant coach. Wagner brings a wealth of experience as both a player and coach, poised to make an immediate impact on the Blue Devils' program.

Wagner joins UW-Stout after serving three seasons as the lead assistant coach at Valley City State University, where he helped guide the Vikings to an 18-11 record in the 2021-22 season, including a third-place finish in the NSAA standings and a semifinal appearance in the NSAA Tournament. During his tenure, Wagner played a key role in recruiting, scouting, practice planning, and player development, with two players earning all-conference honors under his guidance.

"Tim Wagner is an outstanding addition to our program. As a proven Division II player and an assistant coach with experience across multiple levels of college basketball, Tim brings valuable insight and energy that will positively influence our student-athletes every day," Webb said. "When hiring an assistant, the most important quality I looked for was someone whose presence would have a meaningful impact on our players and I have complete confidence that Tim will do just that, both on and off the court."

Before Valley City State, Wagner spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Bemidji State University, contributing to recruiting, scouting, and academic progress while also serving as a camp coordinator and skills coach at the high school level. His coaching experience is complemented by a standout playing career at Harding University, an NCAA Division II program in Arkansas, where he averaged 17.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game over 27 starts. Wagner recorded two 30-point games and 11 20-point games, earning All-Great American Conference and GAC All-Academic honors.

"I'm honored to join the UW-Stout men's basketball program," Wagner said. "I look forward to contributing to the growth of these student-athletes and helping build a competitive program."

A native of Galesville, Wis., Wagner holds a bachelor's degree from Harding University in 2018, and a master's degree in sports management from Winona State University. His deep ties to Wisconsin and proven track record in player development make him a natural fit for UW-Stout.

"I love that Tim is a product of Western Wisconsin and the son of respected high school coach Mark Wagner," Webb said. "Most importantly, Tim is a high-character individual who is committed to putting in the work. We're thrilled to welcome him to Menomonie."

Wagner's hiring comes as UW-Stout prepares for the 2025-26 season, aiming to build on its tradition in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Blue Devils will kick off their season on November 8 when they host Oak Hills Christian College in the Johnson Fieldhouse.
