This Week in Blue Devils Athletics: March 31-April 6

LACROSSE

The Blue Devils split a pair of games last week to move to 5-1 on the season. Stout topped Mount Mercy 15-4 before falling 15-4 on the road to UW-La Crosse.

Mai Nou Vang scored 4 goals, 5 assists for 9 points, 6 draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers in two games this week.  Against Mt Mercy, she played the first half scoring 3 goals, 4 assist for 7 points. She had a hand in the scoring of 7 of Stout's 9 first half goals. Against La Crosse she had a goal and an assist, her goal was a woman down.

Emilia made 18 saves in two games to help Stout to their best start in program history. She made 8 in a win over Mt Mercy and 10 in a road loss at UW-La Crosse. 

The Blue Devils will play twice this week. They host UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday, April 2 at 5 p.m. on Nelson Field.  Then they will travel to St. Paul, Minn. to face Hamline University at 12 p.m. On Saturday April 5.

SOFTBALL

The Blue Devils swept a double header with St. Scholastica, 5-2 and 6-3. 

Across her two appearances, Anna Blanford totaled 10.2 innings pitched, striking out 13 batters and allowing just 3 earned runs for a 2.53 ERA. She faced tough situations but consistently worked out of them, finishing with a 13-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Her efforts led Stout to a sweep of St. Scholastica. In her first appearance of the day, Anna pitched 3.2 innings in relief, allowing just 3 hits and no runs while striking out 5 batters. Later, in the second game, Anna went the distance, throwing a complete 7.0 innings. Scattering 11 hits and 3 earned runs, she struck out 8 and walked only one.

Stephanie Kuhn went 5-6 (.833 Batting average) with three RBI, with a triple and two runs scored with three walks She had an on base percentage of .833 and a slugging percentage of 1.167. 

The Blue Devils are scheduled to travel to St. Paul, Minn. on Sunday, April 6 for a double header with St. Catherine.  Follow Blue Devils Athletics on social media for weather updates. 

BASEBALL

The Blue Devils dropped all four games to No. 14 UW-La Crosse.  

Leyten Bowers went 5-14 (.357) in four games this weekend with 8 RBI, three home runs a double and six runs scored at No. 14 La Crosse.  Defensively he had 13 putouts and 12 assists. 

On base pct.: .438; Slugging pct.: 1.071. In the last game of the series, he hit a 2-run homer and a 3-run homer.

The Blue Devils will travel to Eau-Claire, Wis. this weekend for a four-game series with the Blugolds. First pitch from Carson Park is set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday April 6.

TENNIS

The Blue Devils swept a double header with St. ScholastiThe UW-Stout women's tennis team kicked off its spring season with a solid performance in a doubleheader at the Rogers Tennis Club, earning a 5-2 victory over Bethany Lutheran College before facing a tough Division II opponent in Bemidji State.

On Saturday, April 5, Stout will travel to Ropin College at 11 a.m. Then they will return home on Sunday, April 6 to host Saint Mary’s University.

OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

The Blue Devils will open the outdoor track and field season in La Crosse, Wis. on Saturday, April 5 at the Ashton May Invitational. 

MEN'S GOLF

The Blue Devils open the spring season this Friday April 4 and Saturday April 5 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Normal, Ill. at the Ironwood Golf Course and Webring Golf Course. 

WOMEN'S GOLF

After a week off, The Stout women’s golf team will travel to Waverly, Iowa on Saturday April 5 and Sunday April 6 to compete in the Wartberg Spring Invite. 

FLAG FOOTBALL

The Blue Devils flag football team will make its debut with a pair of games this Saturday April 6 in St. Paull, Minn. 

Stout will play the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 12 p.m. and Gustavus Adolphus at 1:30 p.m. Both games will take place at Reynolds Field on the UNW campus.
