THIS WEEK IN BLUE DEVIL ATHLETICS: March 24-30

LACROSSE

The Blue Devils improved to 4-0 with a dramatic 9-8 over Concordia Wisconsin.

Mai Nou Vang delivered a standout performance in UW-Stout’s thrilling 9-8 victory over CUW, showcasing her scoring touch and clutch playmaking. Vang recorded a hat trick and added an assist, but it was her late-game heroics that sealed the win for the Blue Devils.

With the game tied and just 14 seconds remaining, Vang collected a long clearing pass from her goaltender at the opponent’s restraining line, weaved through three defenders, and buried the game-winning goal to lift Stout to a heart-stopping victory. She then secured the ensuing draw control, allowing the Blue Devils to run out the clock.

Emilia Bullock delivered a clutch performance in UW-Stout’s thrilling 9-8 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin, proving to be the backbone of the Blue Devils' defense. She recorded 17 saves—tied for the third most in program history—while also collecting six ground balls.

With the game on the line, Bullock was at her best. In a tense, tied fourth quarter, she made six crucial saves in the final six minutes, including two on free-position shots. As the clock wound down, she turned away four shots in the last 2:50 of regulation, highlighted by a critical stop with 43 seconds left and a game-saving free-position save with just 34 seconds remaining.

The Blue Devils will play twice this week. They host Mount Mercy on Wednesday, March 26 at 5 p.m. on Nelson Field.  They they will open WIAC play on Saturday, March 29 when they Travel to La Crosse, Wis. to play the Eagles at 1 p.m.

SOFTBALL

The Blue Devils went 3-3 on their spring break trip to Florida. 

Anna Blanford was a workhorse for UW-Stout during their Florida trip, making six appearances (three starts) and pitching 21.0 innings. She posted a 3-1 record with 17 strikeouts, just five walks, and a 3.33 ERA, holding opposing lineups in check throughout the week.
Her most dominant performance came in a historic outing against Augsburg, where she helped secure UW-Stout’s first no-hitter since 2003. Blanford earned the win in the combined effort.

Payton Dolecki started all six games in Florida with a .450 batting average, .500 on base percentage and slugging percentage to help Stout for 3-3. She had nine hits, with six runs scored and three stolen bases. She was perfect in the field with 11 putouts and three outfield assists. 

The Blue Devils are scheduled to host the College of St. Scholastica for a double header on Saturday, March 29, First pitch from Alumni Field is set to 2 p.m. Follow Blue Devils Athletics on social media for weather updates. 

BASEBALL

The Blue Devils went 1-2 in the 2025 opening weekend.  Falling 5-4 in 10 innings to Hamline and dropping a 2-0 decision to Coe College. On Sunday, Stout topped host Millikin 5-1. 

Justin Sedin had a week in Florida at the Blue Wahoos Challenge. In five games, he went 10-22 (.455 BA, .458 On Base%, and 1/045 Slug%) with 3 home runs, 2 doubles, a triple, 8 RBI and 4 runs scored. He had three multi-hit games included a 4-6 performance with a HR. He was a double short of the cycle against Edgewood. He had four RBI against Carroll.   In the field, he had 50 putouts with 2 assists and no errors. 

The Blue Devils will open WIAC play on Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30 in La Crosse, WIs. Stout will play two double headers with the Eagles at Copeland Park, starting at 1 p.m. on Satuday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.

TENNIS

The UW-Stout Tennis team will open the 2025 Spring season with a pair of matches in Rogers Minn. this weekend. 

On Saturday, March 29 Stout will play Bethany Lutheran College at 10 a.m. Then they will play Bemidji State at 2:30 p.m.
