THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION:  UW-Stout, and the entire WIAC conference, will converge on UW-Whitewater Saturday, March 5 for the WIAC/NCGA West Regional Gymnastics Championship (presented by Culver's). The meet is slated to begin at 4 p.m. The 2021 event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 championship was held at UW-Eau Claire and the Blue Devils finished fourth. The Blue Devils are coming off a solid performance at UW-Whitewater last week, scoring 188.200, their highest team score of the season.

A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
  • The Blue Devils have one senior, four juniors, four sophomores and seven freshmen on their 2022 roster. | Complete 2022 Preview
  • Mikala Bugge is Stout's only senior. This is Bugge's sixth season with the Blue Devils. Bugge is a three-time All-American, and earned first team All-America honors in 2019 when she placed second in the all-around. Finished first on floor exercise at 2019 WIAC Championship. Bugge recently set career-bests on the vault and the uneven bars. Bugge set a team-best 9.725 on the vault and scored a 9.525, the team's second best uneven bars scores this season.
  • Carlie Beatty finished fifth on the uneven bars at the 2020 WIAC Championship.
  • Mikala Bugge, Carlie Beatty and Chloe Beatty are the only returning Blue Devils to have competed at a WIAC Championship meet.
  • In head-to-head competition this season, the Blue Devils are 4-3 overall. The Blue Devils finished the COVID-19 shortened season at 3-1 last year. The season was shortened to four dual meets, with no WIAC or NCGA Championships.
  • The Blue Devils finished fourth at the 2020 WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional.
  • Stout won their first ever WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional title in 2019 and finished second at the 2019 NCGA Championship, their best-ever finish.

UW-STOUT LAST TIME OUT:
  • UW-Stout set a season-high team score and seven Blue Devil gymnasts set or matched personal bests in the final dual meet of the season at UW-Whitewater Feb. 26. Stout scored a 188.200, their highest team mark since the 2020 season, to UW-Whitewater's 191.525. The Blue Devils also set team season highs on the vault (47.500) and the balance beam (47.700). Mikala Bugge matched career highs on both the vault and the uneven bars, where she finished second on both events. She scored a 9.775 on the vault and a 9.575 on the uneven bars. Effie Ferguson and Genevieve Czaplewski set personal bests in placing second and third, respectively, on the balance beam. Czaplewski's mark of 9.725 matched the team's previous individual season high on the event and Ferguson's 9.750 set a new high-water mark for the beam this season. Gabrielle Winstead placed sixth on the vault with a personal best 9.500. Gillian Cummins hit a personal best of 9.375 in her first competition since late January. Alia Wilson scored two personal bests – on the uneven bars (9.025) and the balance beam (9.550). Kiara Brown was Stout's leader on the floor exercise, finishing third with a 9.575 and Winstead was fifth (9.550). Brown was the only competitor in the all-around and scored a 37.525, her second-best score of the season.  |   Game Story and Statistics
