2022 NCGA All America in Academics
MENOMONIE (March 10, 2022) - UW-Stout senior gymnast
Mikala Bugge (Oakdale, Minn/Tartan) was one of 54 student-athletes from the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) who were honored for their hard work in the classroom and in the gym as they earned All-America in Academics honors.
Bugge, who earned her undergraduate degree in vocational rehabilition, is currently pursuing her master's degree in rehabilitation counseling. This is the second consecutive year Bugge was honored with the award.
The All-America in Academics Award is presented to each gymnast who maintains a 3.0 overall grade point average (GPA) and whose name appears on the team's NCGA squad list for the current year. Each nominee must qualify as a senior student academically
Bugge, who qualified individually in the vault to the 2022 NCGA Championship later this month, is a four-time All-America, earning All-America honors in 2017 (vault) and 2019 (all-around, vault, balance beam). Bugge was the 2019 WIAC floor exercise champion and earned all-WIAC honors in the all-around and vault that same year, and was all-WIAC in 2017 in the vault.
Bugge set career bests this year in the vault (9.775) and uneven bars. During the 2019 season, Bugge set career-highs in the balance beam (9.650), floor exercise (9.825) and the all-around (38.100). Over her career, Bugge has four times been named the WIAC Gymnast of the Week.
