  • Arenz is the team leader in 3-point shots, draining 19. Sam Schaeffer has made 17 long-range bombs. Schaeffer is averaging 6.3 points and 2.3 assists, which is good enough for 10th in the WIAC.

STOUT LAST TIME OUT:
  • The Blue Devils defeated UW-Eau Claire, 68-60, Feb. 9, but then lost at UW-Whitewater, 87-56, Feb. 12.
  • UW-Stout got behind the eight-ball early and could never find their way back, falling 87-56, to first placed UW-Whitewater Saturday at Kachel Gym. After an initial Stout lead, the Warhawks (22-2, 12-1 WIAC) jumped out to a 24-13 first period lead. Stout (13-9, 8-4 WIAC) made a run in the second period, but were still outscored and fell behind 47-32 at halftime. It wouldn't get any better and the Warhawks ran away with the game. Whitewater's Aleah Grundahl led the way with 18 points. Veronica Kieres added 13 and Abby Belschner had 12 points. Johanna Taylor picked up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Anna Mutch led Stout with 12 points and Lizzy Olsem finished with 11 points.  |  Game Story and Stats
  • Stout women's basketball team showed off their prowess on the boards as they completed the season sweep of their I-94 rival. Stout out-rebounded UW-Eau Claire, 49-26, and went on to defeat 16th-ranked UW-Eau Claire, 68-60, Feb. 12. The Blue Devils struggled to get going in the first period, only shooting 2 for 14 from the floor. But some quick fouls from the Blugolds got Stout to the line which kept them close. Eau Claire was able to maintain the lead for most of the game, but Stout kept close, and then exploded in the fourth quarter to jump ahead. The Blue Devils outscored Eau Claire 28-12 in the fourth quarter. Stout had three double digit scorers, Raegan Sorensen led the way with 19 points, followed by Anna Mutch with 17, and Amanda Giesen with 10. Sorensen also recorded 10 rebounds, six steals, and four assists. Mutch had four assists and seven rebounds as well. Coming up big for Stout again was Alison Murdoch, who pulled down 10 rebounds, seven of which were offensive and led to more opportunities for Stout. Allison Letcher also heated up late and the game, nailing three three-balls to help the Blue Devil's upset. Letcher finished with nine points. Eau Claire was led by Jessie Ruden, who finished with 25 points. Kylie Mogen also added 14 points for the Blugolds. Stout finished the game shooting 35-percent from the floor (21 for 60) while Eau Claire was 47-percent (26 for 55). Stout had a lot more luck getting to the line and making the free throws, finished 21 for 33 from the line. Eau Claire only shot seven free throws the whole game, making three of them. Coupled with the Stout men's 94-89 win over Eau Claire, this marks the first time since the 2005-06 season that both the Stout men's and women's teams swept Eau Claire in the same season.   | Game Story and Stats

After UW-Oshkosh took a 39-35 lead on layups from Claire Staples and Silloway, Warmsley hit a pair of free throws and Gamoke converted a layup to tie the game at 39-39 with 3:58 remaining. The Eagles took their first lead of the game on Gamoke's layup to make it 41-39 with 2:17 left. Arneson's three-pointer with :51 remaining gave UW-Oshkosh a 42-41 advantage. Jenna Jorgensen missed a potential game-winning jumper for UW-Oshkosh at the buzzer to force overtime.  The Eagles took a 46-43 lead with 2:32 remaining in overtime on a Kyah Steiner layup. Porath's jumper with 2:13 left and Arneson's pair of free throws with 1:42 remaining gave UW-Oshkosh a 47-46 lead. UWL missed a layup and Arneson was fouled with :43 left. She made one-of-two free throws to make it 48-46. Warmsley's layup with :30 remaining tied the game, but Porath's jumper with :02 remaining gave UW-Oshkosh a 50-48 advantage. After a timeout and jumped ball, Alana Gilles forced a second overtime with a layup at the buzzer off a Schumann assist. UWL led 57-53 with 2:01 left in the second extra session after Schumann hit two free throws. Porath's layup with 1:41 left made it a two-point game and after a UWL turnover, Porath hit the game-tying jumper with :55 remaining to make it 57-57. The Eagles missed three shots on their possession before the Titans secured the rebound. UW-Oshkosh called timeout with :06 remaining and Porath's layup with :02 left gave the Titans a 59-57 lead. WHEN LA CROSSE AND STOUT LAST MET:
  • A 17-point second half lead was too much for the Blue Devils to overcome, as they fall to conference-opponent UW-La Crosse 74-61 on Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. Stout used a strong third-quarter push to a whittle down La Crosse's 17-point halftime lead. But the Eagles were able to connect on their free-throws down the stretch to pull off the 13 points win. The Eagles used a second-quarter surge to pull ahead going into halftime. Stout struggled getting the ball in the basket only scoring 10 points in the second quarter on 27-percent shooting, La Crosse scored 24 points in the second quarter with 20 coming from within the paint, putting them up 41-24 at halftime. Stout came out of the break on their own hot streak. The Blue Devils outscored the Eagles 20-10 in the third quarter, closing the Eagle's lead down to only seven, 51-44 at the end of the third. The Blue Devils used the momentum to start out the fourth-quarter with a quick 6-3 run, making it a two-possession game at 54-50. With time expiring, the Blue Devils started intentionally fouling to try to keep time on their side. La Crosse closed out the game making 13 out of 16 free throws, pulling out the win 74-61. Raegan Sorensen didn't see much action in the first half due to foul trouble, but came into the second half and scored 10 of her 14 points. Sorensen helped fuel Stout's third-quarter push. Alison Murdoch and Amanda Giesen also contributed to Stout's scoring with 12 and 11 points. Giesen was also active on the defensive end with three steals. Anna Mutch led the team in rebounds with five, and assists with seven. Mutch also chipped in two baskets of her own. La Crosse was led by Emma Gamoke with 19 points. Kyah Steiner recorded a double-double for the Eagles with 17 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, Stout shot 40-percent from the field (22 for 55) while La Crosse shot 50-percent (23 for 46). The Blue Devils shot 42-percent from deep (8 for 19). La Crosse made 22 of 29 from the free throw line (14 for 19 in the fourth-quarter alone) while Stout finished nine for 16 from the line. The Eagles also had the edge in the rebounding category, 39-26.  | Game Story and Stats
THE SERIES:

THE COACHES:
UW-STOUT:

  • Hannah Iverson (48-36) is in her fourth year in 2021-22 as the head coach of the Blue Devils.
  • Prior to becoming the Blue Devils' head coach, Iverson was the director of player development for women's basketball at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay, a position she began in October, 2016. As well as working directly with the team, Iverson managed the program's operating budget, coordinated team travel, co-directed summer camps and clinics and handled all aspects of team film. She assisted in the set-up of on-campus recruiting and coordinating official and unofficial visits for potential recruits. Iverson held a similar position - director of basketball operations - at the University of Illinois from 2014-16.
  • Iverson spent two years at NAIA member Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, as an assistant women's basketball coach for the 2012-14 school years. Iverson was in charge of guard development in a season where she helped the Saints to the 2014 Association of Independent Institutions tournament championship, earning Ashford a berth in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship tournament, the first conference title and appearance in the NAIA D-II tournament in Saints history.
  • A member of the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team from 2008-12, playing as Hannah Quilling, Iverson finished her career in the top 10 for games played as the Phoenix posted a 122-13 record over her four years. The team was 68-4 in Horizon League play and advanced to the NCAA Division I tournament four times, including one trip to the Sweet 16. She led the Horizon League in assist-to-turnover ratio in 2011-12, was sixth in steals per game and ninth in assists per game. She was also named to the Horizon League Honor Roll, earned the UW-Green Bay Chancellor's Leadership Medallion, was a two-time recipient of the UW-Green Bay University Leadership Award and the Patricia Hinckley Scholarship, and won the JoAnne Jennings Award in 2012.
  • Iverson has gotten to 30 career wins faster than any other Blue Devil basketball coach, men or women. Iverson reached her 30th win in 42 games. Mark Thomas needed to turn around a women's basketball program that had won only two games the previous two seasons before he arrived. Thomas needed 75 games to reach 30 wins, but once he did, he kept building and became the winningest basketball coach in Blue Devil history, both men and women. On the men's side, Ray Johnson needed 59 games to reach 30 wins. Dewey Mintz needed 67 games to reach 30, John Muraski needed 63 and Eddie Andrist needed 59 games.
