Blue Devils downed by first place UW-Whitewater

UW-Whitewater 87, UW-Stout 56

WHITEWATER (February 12, 2022) - UW-Stout got behind the eight-ball early and could never find their way back, falling 87-56, to first placed UW-Whitewater Saturday at Kachel Gym.

After an initial Stout lead, the Warhawks (22-2, 12-1 WIAC) jumped out to a 24-13 first period lead. Stout (13-9, 8-4 WIAC) made a run in the second period, but were still outscored and fell behind 47-32 at halftime. It wouldn't get any better and the Warhawks ran away with the game.

Whitewater's Aleah Grundahl led the way with 18 points. Veronica Kieres added 13 and Abby Belschner had 12 points. Johanna Taylor picked up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Anna Mutch led Stout with 12 points and Lizzy Olsem finished with 11 points.

Stout will close out the regular season Wednesday, Feb. 16, when they host UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
