LA CROSSE (May 20, 2021) - UW-Stout's
Hannah Zastrow has been raising the bar of the high jump and the lowering the school record time in the 100-hurdles.
The freshman set a personal best at the NCAA Qualifier at UW-La Crosse Wednesday in the high jump and the following day broke her own school record in the 100-hurdles for the third week in a row. Zastrow cleared 5-foot, 7-inches in the high jump Wednesday and then Thursday edged out her own hurdles record with a time of 14.28 seconds, edging her previous best of 14.34.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Huber also had a solid night in the shot put while competing at the Augustana Twilight Qualifier. Huber threw a career-best 46-feet, 9-inches (14.25m) in winning the event in Rock Island, Ill. The mark is third on the Stout all-time shot put list, behind Ann Schachtner (47-5.25) and Jenney Luer (46-10). Huber also set a career-best in the hammer throw, throwing the implement 145-5 (44.33m).
The Blue Devils had seven throwers competing at Augustana.
In the hammer throw,
Jacob Bugella was second with a 194-3 (59.22m) and Connor Walchecka was 14th with a 154-5 (47.06m).
Alec Benzinger was sixth in the shot put with a 52--6.75 (16.02m) and ninth in the discus with a 155-4 (47.35m). Bugella was q9th (143-9/43.81m) and
Nate Karau was 21st (141-5/43.11m).
On the women's side,
Demi Ploor was eighth in the shot put with a personal-best distance of 43-1 (13.13m) and 12th inthe hammer throw (149-9/45.64m).
Payton Schneider was 19th in the discus (121-0/36.88m) and 27th in the hammer throw (124-6/37.94m).
At La Crosse,
Brent Heilman finished second in the 200-meter (21.51).
Cody Lohrenz was fourth in the 400-meter (48.80) and
Owen Jelinek was eighth (51.33).
Carter Wente was seventh in the 100-hurdles (15.36).
The qualifying list for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in Greensboro, N.C., will be announced this weekend.
