Softball WIAC/Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week

Mackensie Wolterstorff were selected as the softball WIAC/Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week, Hall as the position player of the week and Wolterstorff the pitcher of the week, after the Blue Devils' sweep of UW-Superior in the team's season-opener Saturday in Mankato, Minn.
Hall, a junior from Farmington, Minn., went 7-for-9 (.778) at the plate with a double and scored seven runs over two games in UW-Stout's season opening sweep of UW-Superior on Feb. 27, in Mankato, Minn. As the team's lead-off hitter in both games, Hall went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the first game. In the second game, Hall went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and one RBI. Hall had two stolen bases in the second game, stealing third base in the first inning and stealing home in the third game. This is the second time Hall has earned the award, receiving the honor last season.
Wolterstorff, a sophomore from Mounds View, Minn., came on in relief to pick up the win in the second game 7-6 decision over UW-Superior in the season opener on Feb. 27, going four complete innings, allowing no runs, striking out eight and walking none, while facing 14 batters. Wolterstorff came on for UW-Stout's starting pitcher in the fourth inning with two runners on base and no outs and stopped the rally, recording two strikeouts in the inning and threw out the lead off runner for the third out. Wolterstorff struck out two batters in both the fifth and the sixth innings, allowed a base runner in the bottom of the seventh, but recorded a strikeout for the final out of the game.
The sweep also gave Blue Devil head coach
Becky Iaccino her 100th career win. Iaccino is in her sixth year as the Blue Devil head coach and seven years overall as a collegiate head coach. Her overall record is 100-94 and 82-76 at UW-Stout.
The Blue Devils return to action Saturday, March 20 when they travel to the University of St. Thomas and will be at the College of St. Benedict, Sunday, March 21.
