AN OVERALL LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
- The Blue Devils are going to have to replace senior starters John Keefe and Zach Dahl, who graduated last year. That responsibility is likely to fall on the shoulders of 6-foot-2 guard Luke Geiger and 6-foot-6 forward Jon Ciriacks, who are both entering their junior seasons after breakout sophomore campaigns. Geiger and Ciriacks combined to average just over 26 points per game, with Geiger dropping in 13.8 points and Ciriacks, who earned all-WIAC honorable mention honors, scored 13.0 points. Ciriacks pulled down 6.6 rebounds per contest, ranking fifth in the WIAC. The Blue Devils bring back 11 players and bring on eight newcomers.
- Among returners, Geiger led Stout in 3-pointers made, averaging 2.13 long-range goals per game. Geiger hit seven 3-pointers when he scored a career-best 27 points against UW-Whitewater, Feb. 9. Geiger scored in double digits 19 times and four times surpassed 20 points.
- Ciriacks scored a near career-best when he dropped in 24 points against Whitewater, hitting six field goals with three 3-pointers and was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line. Ciriacks scored a career-best 25 points against Northland College, Dec. 21.

- Alexander played at Oakland (Mich) Community College for a season and brings athleticism to the Blue Devils. Briggs is slotted to play at the forward and will help to stretch the Blue Devils' offense, as well as clean up on the glass, as he gets more accustomed to the college game.
- Versatility from the No. 1 to No. 3 positions was a prime area of focus for Lake and his staff. Horton and Hill transferred from North Dakota State College of Science, but neither used basketball eligibility at the two-year school. Hill played football at NDSCS, but in high school was a WCCO high school basketball first team all-state player and was an all-state defensive MVP. Horton was a two-time all-conference player and was the Jefferson County player of the year.
- McCray, Jackson and Hoglund bring multiple skills to the Blue Devils.
- Hoglund brings a local flavor to the Blue Devils. The Chippewa Falls McDonell graduate was a Wisconsin Division 5 all-state first team selection and a member of four teams that qualified to state competition, including a state championship in 2016 and a runner-up trophy in 2018. Hoglund played high school ball for now Stout assistant coach Archie Sherbinow.

SCOUTING UW-OSHKOSH
- The defending national champion Titans have had a bit of a bumpy ride this season, losing five games so far this season, two more than all of last year. But the Titans showed they are definitely a team to be reckoned with when they handed UW-La Crosse their first loss of the season last weekend in the season opener. While all-American Ben Boots has graduated, the Titans welcome back three starters from the 2018-19 squad, including senior center Jack Flynn and senior forward Adam Fravert. Flynn led the league with 188 field goals made and 120 free-throws made, while placing third with 8.2 rebounds per contest. His 15.5 points per game were second on the team. Fravert topped the conference with 61 blocked shots and led the Titans with 36 steals. THE TITANS LAST TIME OUT
- nationally ranked UW-Platteville reclaimed a lead with 18 unanswered points spanning both halves and held on for a 74-70 win over defending WIAC and NCAA Division III champion UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday at Kolf Sports Center. Oshkosh (7-6, 1-1 WIAC) cut its deficit to 65-63 with 2:50 to go, but the Pioneers hit a 3-pointer 21 seconds later and never allowed the Titans to have the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead the rest of the way in a matchup of the past two WIAC regular season champions. UW-Platteville claimed the league title in 2018. UW-Oshkosh won last year's conference championship by three games with a 13-1 record. The Titans, who had their 10-game WIAC regular season home winning streak snapped, shot 27.3 percent (9-33) from the field during the second half, including 14.3 percent (2-14) from 3-point range. Adam Fravert paced UW-Oshkosh with 20 points while Will Mahoney and Eddie Muench had 13 and 11, respectively, and Eric Peterson chipped in nine. Fravert, who had three blocks to increase his WIAC-leading total to 24, added eight rebounds. Jack Flynn pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive end, and dished out a team-best two assists for the Titans.
- Will Mahoney paced all players with 21 points and a season-high five assists, Jack Flynn added a season-best 20 points and the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team led wire to wire en route to handing unbeaten and nationally ranked UW-La Crosse a 79-63 loss during the WIAC opener Saturday (Jan. 4) in Kolf Sports Center. Four Titans scored in double figures as Levi Borchert and Eddie Muench had 12 apiece off the bench.
LAST YEAR WHEN STOUT AND OSHKOSH MET
- The Blue Devils gave the eventual national champions all they could handle in the teams' first meeting in Menomonie, but the Titans swept the series, winning the first contest 77-75 and the second contest in Oshkosh, 88-62.
- UW-Stout gave sixth-ranked UW-Oshkosh all they could handle, but the Titans managed to squeak out a two-point 77-75 win over the Blue Devils on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse, Jan. 5, 2019. . The Blue Devils lead throughout the entire first half, taking a 44-41 lead into the locker room. The Titans took their first lead of the game at 18:13 in the second half, building to as much as a four point lead before Stout grabbed the lead back. Stout took a nine-point, 69-60 lead at 6:43. But the Titans chipped away at the lead and preseason All-American Ben Boots provided much of the chipping. Boots was fouled on a 3-point attempt and sank all three charity shots with 1:30 left to pull the Titans to within 75-73. A minute later, Boots gave the Titans their first lead in more than 12 minutes, hitting a 3-pointer from deep in the corner for a 76-75 lead with 29.5 seconds remaining. The Blue Devils had opportunities to tie or pull ahead, but the lid was on the bucket for Stout as they missed two free throw attempts.
- In the rematch Feb. 2, 2019, while the Blue Devils did not own the lead throughout, the game was close as the two teams traded leads throughout the first half before the fourth-ranked Titans began to slowly pull away with about six minutes left in the half and take a 49-36 halftime lead. The Titans pulled far and away early in the second half and went on a 24-8 run on their way to an 88-62 win at Kolf Sports Center.
