AN OVERALL LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
  • The Blue Devils are going to have to replace senior starters John Keefe and Zach Dahl, who graduated last year. That responsibility is likely to fall on the shoulders of 6-foot-2 guard Luke Geiger and 6-foot-6 forward Jon Ciriacks, who are both entering their junior seasons after breakout sophomore campaigns. Geiger and Ciriacks combined to average just over 26 points per game, with Geiger dropping in 13.8 points and Ciriacks, who earned all-WIAC honorable mention honors, scored 13.0 points. Ciriacks pulled down 6.6 rebounds per contest, ranking fifth in the WIAC. The Blue Devils bring back 11 players and bring on eight newcomers.
  • Among returners, Geiger led Stout in 3-pointers made, averaging 2.13 long-range goals per game. Geiger hit seven 3-pointers when he scored a career-best 27 points against UW-Whitewater, Feb. 9. Geiger scored in double digits 19 times and four times surpassed 20 points.
  • Ciriacks scored a near career-best when he dropped in 24 points against Whitewater, hitting six field goals with three 3-pointers and was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line. Ciriacks scored a career-best 25 points against Northland College, Dec. 21.
  • Among the returners for the Blue Devils include guards Josh Mericle, Carson Moe, Zach Miller and Peter Brey and forwards Matt Newman, Brady Booth, Cam Brussow and Makete Fru and center Kaden Koski.
  • Koski started 11 games as a freshman and averaged 15.1 minutes. Newman saw action in 22 games. Mericle saw action in 19 games and started one. Booth saw action in 12 games, coming on during the conference season where he saw action in nine conference contests.
  • Alexander played at Oakland (Mich) Community College for a season and brings athleticism to the Blue Devils. Briggs is slotted to play at the forward and will help to stretch the Blue Devils' offense, as well as clean up on the glass, as he gets more accustomed to the college game.
  • Versatility from the No. 1 to No. 3 positions was a prime area of focus for Lake and his staff. Horton and Hill transferred from North Dakota State College of Science, but neither used basketball eligibility at the two-year school. Hill played football at NDSCS, but in high school was a WCCO high school basketball first team all-state player and was an all-state defensive MVP. Horton was a two-time all-conference player and was the Jefferson County player of the year.
  • McCray, Jackson and Hoglund bring multiple skills to the Blue Devils.
  • Hoglund brings a local flavor to the Blue Devils. The Chippewa Falls McDonell graduate was a Wisconsin Division 5 all-state first team selection and a member of four teams that qualified to state competition, including a state championship in 2016 and a runner-up trophy in 2018. Hoglund played high school ball for now Stout assistant coach Archie Sherbinow.

Stout trailed 37-28 at halftime, but came out of the locker room to cut the lead to seven points. SCOUTING UW-EAU CLAIRE
  • When the Blugolds lost 80-79 to UW-Stout early in January, they had a rough go of it for a while, dropping consecutive games to UW-Platteville (60-53) and UW-Oshkosh (82-66) before rebounding for a one point win over UW-Stevens Point and a 12 point win over UW-River Falls, only to be tripped up by UW-La Crosse last weekend. Eau Claire headed into the conference season at 9-2, but have gone to 12-6 overall. Cole Rabedeaux is second in the conference in scoring at 19.9 points per contest. Rabedeaux has twice this season reached 30 points, scoring 30 against Wartburg College, then topping that with a 31 point effort two games later. Spencer Page is averaging 13.1 points, Carter Brooks, the team's leading rebounder at 6.1 caroms, is averaging 11.4 and Cam Kuepers 11.3. The Blugolds are second in blocked shots with 61 and Brooks has a third of the blocked shots with 20, third in the league. Ethan Wacholz leads the league in steals with 35 (1.94). As a team, the Blugolds average 70.5 points and give up 68.4.  | Statistics

THE BLUGOLDS LAST TIME OUT
  • Eau Claire  dropped a hard-fought contest to No. 17 UW-La Crosse Saturday night, 75-59. The Blugolds fell behind 12-2 quickly, but the rest of the first half both teams traded buckets. A 3-pointer from La Crosse with a minute remaining gave them a 33-26 advantage going into the halftime break. La Crosse extended their lead through the several minutes of the second half, but a run from Eau Claire tightened things up by the nine minutes remaining mark. With the lead at just nine, a Blugold miscue led to an and-one from the Eagles, sinking UWEC's chances. They got the lead back down to ten with under a minute remaining, but La Crosse iced the game at the free throw line. Eau Claire had a solid offensive day, shooting 41 percent from the field, but they couldn't overcome 11 made threes from La Crosse. Cole Rabedeaux would once again finish as the top scorer for the Blugolds, with 21 points on 8-15 shooting. Carter Brooks and Cam Kuepers both contributed 15, and Brooks came within one rebound of a double-double. | Game Story and Statistics

LAST TIME UW-EAU CLAIRE AND STOUT MET
  • UW-Stout found themselves in a familiar situation. Down at halftime, the Blue Devils pulled even, then took the lead. But unlike several games earlier this season, Stout did not falter and went on to notch their first conference win of the season, an 80-79 nail-biter over nearby rival UW-Eau Claire Wednesday at Zorn Arena. Stout trailed by nine points, 39-31, at halftime. Led by the game's leading scorer, Jon Ciriacks, the Blue Devils chipped away at the Eau Claire lead and took a lead of their own, 49-45, over the first eight-plus minutes of the half, going on an 18-6 run as Ciriacks hit 10 of his game-high 23 points in the run. Ciriacks made two free throws at the midway point to give Stout a 53-52 lead and the Blue Devils never trailed again, notching the program's first conference win since Feb. 7, 2018 and Stout's first win over Eau Claire since Jan. 17, 2018.Ciriacks scored 20 points in the second half to lead Stout. Alexander scored 13 points and Marcus Hill came off the bench to score 10. McCray pulled down 10 rebounds. Stout's bench outscored Eau Claire's bench 21-6. The Blue Devils dropped in a season-high 24 of 34 free throws to 15 of 19 for Eau Claire. The Blue Devils committed a season-low 11 turnovers. The Blugolds had five players in double figures. Cole Rabedeaux matched Ciriacks' 23 points. Brooks scored 14, Spencer Page 13, Blake Wacholz 12 and Cam Kuepers 11. | Game Story and Statistics
