  • Stout is second in the WIAC in steals. The Blue Devils average 7.70 steals per contest. Kyle Williams is seventh in the league in steals (1.56).
  • After missing all except two minutes of last season due to injury, John Keefe eased into the first games of the season, but now has been out the last three games. Keefe scored 12 and 7 points, respectively in the first two games, but has scored in double digits in nine of 10 games played. Keefe is no longer appearing in the WIAC statistics because he has not played in 75 percent of the Blue Devils' 18 games. Keefe has played in 13. Keefe is currently leading the WIAC in scoring with 21.3 points and is ranked 28th nationally. Keefe has scored in double digits in 11 of the 12 games he has played. An injury in the UW-Whitewater game Jan. 9 kept Keefe out of the last three games. Keefe has played in 76 percent of games this year, missing a game in December in addition to the last three games.
  • Zach Dahl overcame a cold start to the seasons and is now averaging 7.7 points per game and is among the team leaders in rebounds, averaging 3.9 per game. On the free throw line, Dahl has been steady, hitting 32 of 40 attempts (.821). Dahl is 23 of 57 from 3-point range, and his percentage (.404) is eighth in the league. Only two Blue Devils have played in all 20 games - Dahl and Garret Parks. Dahl has started all 20  games. .Dahl is averaging 26.2 minutes played, top on the team among all active players.
  • Sophomore captain Jon Ciriacks played the first two games of the season, then missed the next five games before returning against Crown College, Dec. 7. Now, Ciriacks is averaging 13.3 points and 6.8 rebounds. During his freshman season, Ciriacks averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds. Ciriacks is the team's second-leading scorer and top rebounder. Out of 14 games played, Ciriacks has scored in double figures 10 times, twice scoring 20 or more points. Ciriacks pulled down a career-best 13 rebounds in the season-opener against Lawrence, giving him is first career double-double. Ciriacks is 15th in the league in scoring and sixth in rebounding.
  • Sophomore Luke Geiger has started the last six games for UW-Stout and has been the team's leading scorer in all five of those games and is averaging 18.2 point in that six game stretch. Geiger has scored, since the Jan. 12 meeting with UW-Platteville, 19, 20, 15, 21, 18 and 16 points consecutively. . . After scoring 11 total points all of last season, Geiger is averaging 13.1 points per game and is ranked 17th in the WIAC. Geiger exceeded his entire freshman season scoring totals during the Blue Devils' season-opening overtime win over Lawrence. Geiger is currently third on the team in scoring. Geiger 12 times this season has scored in double digits, scoring a career-best 21 points against Northland College, then matching that against UW-Stevens Point, Jan. 23.. With 35 3-pointers, Geiger trails only Keefe (39) on the team.
  • Junior transfer Kyle Williams has come off the bench to average 4.5 points, is tied for first with D'Marcco Patrick on the team in assists with 49, and leads the team with 28 steals.
  • Freshman Garret Parks has seen action in all 20  games, and is averaging 5.5 points per contest and is shooting 53.2  percent (42-79) from the floor. He has scored in 19 of the 20games and hit a collegiate-high 13 points against Bethel University in November.  Parks has started nine games.

  •
A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
  • Jim Lake is in his first year at the helm of the Blue Devils, coming to Menomonie after coaching at Ferris State University where the Bulldogs won the NCAA Division II national title last season.
  • Stout was picked to finish eighth in the WIAC in a preseason poll conducted by league coaches and sports information directors.
  • Team captains for the 2018-19 season are seniors John Keefe and Zach Dahl and sophomore Jon Ciriacks.
  • Also returning from last season are: Luke Geiger, Josh Mericle, Tanner Schmitt, Brady Booth and Trey Hake. Braden Walbeck and D'Marcco Patrick return after not having played last season.

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
  • The Blue Devils are still looking for that first elusive win, falling to UW-Stevens Point, 72-61, Jan. 23, 83-73 at UW-Platteville, Jan. 26 and 96-73 to UW-River Falls Wednesday.
  •  A hot shooting UW-River Falls team on a cold day spelled trouble for UW-Stout as the Falcons defeated the Blue Devils, 96-73, Thursday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Falcons (9-11, 2-7 WIAC) shot 60.0 percent (18-30) and only got hotter as the night went along, finishing by shooting 61.5 percent (32-52) for the game. The Blue Devils (6-14, 0-9 WIAC), by contrast, shot 40.7 percent (11-27) in the first half, hit 48.4 percent (15-31) in the second half to finish at 44.8 percent (26-58). Luke Geiger and Jon Ciriacks each scored 16 points.
  •  A strong second half was not enough to push UW-Stout over UW-Platteville. The Pioneers shot 71 percent in the first half and raced to an 83-73 win over UW-Stout Saturday. Stout outscored the Pioneers 52-26 in the second half to pull to within 10 points as both teams began the second round of WIAC play.
  • From the floor, UW-Stout had one of their best shooting nights of the season, hitting 48.3 percent of their shots, but it wouldn't be enough as the Blue Devils were downed by UW-Stevens Point, 72-61, Wednesday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Blue Devils dropped in 28 of 58 shots from the floor, more field goals than the Pointers (12-5, 4-3 WIAC). But the visitors made up for it by making eight 3-pointers and making their free throw shots count by connecting on 14 of 18 charity shots. | Game Story and Statistics

SCOUTING UW-RIVER FALLS
  • Julian Jackson (13.2), Austin Heidecker (12.9) and Matt Keller (12.2) ) lead the team in scoring. Heidecker by far leads the WIAC in rebounds, pulling down 10.6 per contest. A 48.4 percent shooter, Heidecker averages 3.4 offensive rebounds and 7.2 defensive boards. The Falcons top the league in rebounds (41.2). River Falls averages 77.1 points per game and gives up 75.2.

THE FALCONS THE LAST TIME OUT
  • The Falcons almost gave UW-Oshkosh more than they could handle on Saturday night, pushing the WIAC-leading Titans throughout the game before falling 80-69 at Page Arena. UW-River Falls hung on after a furious run from the defending national runner-ups in the final minutes of the half gave the Titans a lead at the break. UWRF fought back to take a 50-49 lead after a layup from Jack Stensgard to put them up with 12 minutes remaining, but it would be the last time they held a lead.
  • The Falcons trailed by as much as 11 points in the second half before bringing it within one point in the final minute of their Wednesday night battle with UW-La Crosse. However, UW-River Falls wasn't able to re-take the lead after a three-pointer from Jack Stensgard missed in the closing seconds as the Eagles held on for a 66-65 win.
WHEN STOUT AND RIVER FALLS LAST MET
  •  Trailing 31-10, UW-Stout went on a 17-3 run to close out the final six minutes of the first half to pull to within seven points, 34-27, at halftime, but UW-River Falls would just barely hold off the Blue Devils and defeated Stout, 71-69, Jan 16. Stout kept up the offensive in the second half, getting as close a one point, 66-65, with 2:22 left in the game, but could not get over the hump. Trailing by five at 2:33, Luke Geiger pulled Stout to within 66-61. D'Marcco Patrick stole the ball and went the distance to lay the ball in, then connected on both free throws following a River Falls technical foul and Stout trailed 66-65. The Falcons extended the lead to three points on a pair of free throws by Julian Jackson, but Patrick brought Stout back to within one point, 68-57, making two charity shots. A 3-pointer by the Falcons' Jack Stensgard was answered by a layup by Zach Dahl. The Falcons missed three consecutive shots in the final 40 seconds of the game and a potential game winning 3-pointer by Geiger missed the mark. Geiger would lead all scorers with 20 points, one point short of a career-best. Patrick finished with 10 points. The Blue Devils handcuffed themselves in the first half, hitting 24.1 percent (7-20) of their shots from the floor. They turned the game around by hitting 45.5 percent (15-33) of their second half shots to finish the game shooting 35.5 percent (22-62).

SCOUTING UW-OSHKOSH
  • The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team is off to the best start in program history, entering the week ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com with an 18-1 record and an 8-0 mark in WIAC play. The Titans have a one-game lead in the conference standings with six contests remaining. Jack Flynn leads the team in scoring at 15.9 points per contest. Ben Boots is averaging 15.8 points, and Adam Fravart and Brett Wittchow14.1 points each. The Titans, last year's NCAA Division III runner-up, lead the league in scoring with 84.5 points and only UW-Stevens Point allows fewer than Oshkosh's 66.4 points average.

  •
THE TITANS THE LAST TIME OUT
  • Adam Fravert and Brett Wittchow combined for 42 points to lead the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team to an 80-69 victory at UW-River Falls on Saturday (Jan. 26).
UW-Oshkosh (18-1, 8-0 WIAC), ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, reclaimed the lead for good at 52-50 following a three-point play from Wittchow with 10:57 remaining. Clinging to a 64-61 lead with 5:37 left, a three-point-play by Jack Flynn provided the Titans a 67-71 advantage at the 5:12 mark, and UW-Oshkosh led by at least four points the rest of the way.
  • The Titans were scheduled to host UW-Whitewater, Wednesday, Jan. 30, but that game has been postponed to Monday, Feb. 4. .
LAST TIME STOUT AND OSHKOSH MET
  • UW-Stout gave sixth-ranked UW-Oshkosh all they could handle, but the Titans managed to squeak out a two-point 77-75 win over the Blue Devils Jan. 5 at Johnson Fieldhouse. The Blue Devils  lead throughout the entire first half, taking a 44-41 lead into the locker room. The Titans took their first lead of the game at 18:13 in the second half, building to as much as a four point lead before Stout grabbed the lead back at 12:50, 56-53, on a 3-pointer by Braden Walbeck. Walbeck's 3-pointer started a 16-7 run to give Stout a nine-point, 69-60 lead at 6:43. But the Titans chipped away at the lead and preseason All-American Ben Boots provided much of the chipping. Boots was fouled on a 3-point attempt and sank all three charity shots with 1:30 left to pull the Titans to within 75-73. A minute later, Boots gave the Titans their first lead in more than 12 minutes, hitting a 3-pointer from deep in the corner for a 76-75 lead with 29.5 seconds remaining. The Blue Devils had opportunities to tie or pull ahead, but the lid was on the bucket for Stout as they missed two free throw attempts.
  • OSHKOSH'S VIEW OF THE GAME: Ben Boots tied his season high with 31 points, including each of the final seven of the game, as the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team escaped with a 77-75 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday (Jan. 5) in Menomonie. W-Oshkosh (12-1, 2-0 WIAC) trailed, 69-60, with 6:43 remaining and faced a 75-70 deficit with 1:57 to play before the Titans rallied behind Boots' heroics.
