2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Shot Put results
LA CROSSE (May 25, 2018) -
Sam Elsner (Sr, Pardeville/Portage) earned his second All-America award of the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship when he finished eighth in the shot put Friday at UW-La Crosse.
Following the preliminaries and heading into the finals of the event, Elsner was in ninth place with a mark of 53-feet, one spot out of returning to the awards podium. As the ninth place competitor, Elsner was the first to throw in the finals round and popped his best throw of the day with a mark of 53-feet, 2.25-inches, enough to move him into eighth place.
The mark would stand up through the remainder of the final round. Elsner fouled on his final two throws of the hot, humid afternoon.
The University of Dubuque's Blaze Murfin won the event with a throw of 61-feet, 1.25-inches, moving past top-seeded UW-Eau Claire's David Kornack on his fifth throw. Kornack finished with a mark of 60-8. Seven of the nine participants fouled on the sixth and final attempt.
Elsner won the national discus title on Thursday.
Following the shot put, UW-Stout as a team was in fourth place with 11 points.
Elsner will close out his collegiate career Saturday, May 26 when he competes in the hammer throw at 11 a.m. Lydia Meier and Kayla Pabst will compete in the women's hammer throw Saturday at 2 p.m. Pole vaulters
Christian Lucchesi and
Noah Zastrow will compete at noon.
