Big Dawg Invitational results
STEVENS POINT (February 17, 2018) - UW-Stout swept the top three spots in the pole vault and had five performers in the top seven spots in the event Saturday at the Big Dawg Invitational at UW-Stevens Point. As a team, the Blue Devils finished second of eight teams.
Josh Freyholtz and
Noah Zastrow both finished with a height of 15-feet, 1.50-inches, but Freyholtz took the top spot on jumps.
Jack Kolar was third with a height of 14-1.75.
Brenden Buryska was sixth (13-1.75) and
Alec Varani was seventh (12-2).
Isaac Lee posted a collegiate-best leap of 43-3 in taking first place in the triple jump.
Cody Lohrenz finished second in the 200m in a college-best time of 22.83.
Andrew Gilles was second in the 800m (1:57.30).
Stout returns to Stevens Point next weekend when they will be at the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship.
Sprints, hurdles and relays
- Freshman Brent Heilman finished third in the 60m wit a time of 7.19. Heilman was eighth after the preliminaries, claiming the last spot in the final with a time of 7.21. Mackenson Steinberg was ninth (7.26), Alex Grulkowski 12th (7.29), Jack Hoaby 17th (7.42), Brandon Hernandez 18th (7.45) and Noah Bielinski 19th (7.47).
- Freshman Cody Lohrenz continues to impress, finishing second in the 200m with a collegiate-best time of 22.83. Ross Thompson was fourth (22.86), Heilman fifth (23.01), Steinberg 12th (23.69), Hoaby 16th (23.95), Noah Bielinski 17th (24.03), Jasiah Scott 18th (24.11), and Hernandez 19th (24.12).
- Thompson placed sixth in the 400m with a time of 51.54. Scott was 16th (54.99).
- Noah Zastrow placed ninth in the 60m hurdles (9.18).
- Stout took the top two finishes in the 4x400-relay.
Mid-Distance and Distance
Jumps

- Spencer Wilhelm was sixth in the high jump (5-10).
- Isaac Lee was first in the triple jump with a college best 43-3.
- Grulkowski was third (21-6.75) and Freyholtz fourth in the long jump (21-1.50)
Throws
- Freshman Alec Benzinger was fifth (47-5) in the shot put and Kevin Ruechel 10th (44-6). The pair flipped finishes in the weight throw with Ruechel placing 10th (46-10) and Benzinger 13th (43-2). Jacob Bugella was 17th (38-7).
