THE BLUE DEVILS IN 2018-19
- In Stout's first nine games of the season, the team scored more 75 points or more in eight of the games, being held to less than 75 points in a 65-56 win over Finlandia, Dec. 14. Stout is averaging 83.4 points per game and giving up 80.7.
- After missing all except two minutes of last season due to injury, John Keefe eased into the first games of the season, but has been on a tear since then. Keefe scored 12 and 7 points, respectively in the first two games, but since then has scored at least 19 point in following seven and has scored in the 30s in three games. Keefe is averaging a conference-leading 23.4 points per game. Keefe leads the WIAC in 3-pointers made with 3.56 per outing. Keefe hit a career-best 33 points in an overtime loss to McMurry University. Keefe currently has 1084 career points, and is 17th on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list. Keefe missed the Blue Devils' win over Northland College due to illness.
- Zach Dahl overcame a cold start to the season from the floor. The senior captain did not hit a shot from the floor in the first two games, scoring only two points from the free throw line, which may have been an early season precursor. But Dahl has steadily increased his scoring totals and is now averaging 8.2 points per game and is among the team leaders in rebounds, averaging 3.8 per game. Back at the free throw line, Dahl has been steady, hitting 23 of 26 attempts (.885), sixth in the WIAC.
- Sophomore captain Jon Ciriacks played the first two games of the season, then missed the next five games before returning against Crown College, Dec. 7. Now after four games, Ciriacks is averaging 15.8 points and 8.4 rebounds. Players need to have played in 75 percent of the team's games to be eligible to appear in the WIAC stats listing. With his current numbers, Ciriacks would be listed among the top 10 in both categories. During his freshman season, Ciriacks averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds.
- Sophomore Luke Geiger exceeded his entire freshman season scoring totals during the Blue Devils' season-opening overtime win over Lawrence. Geiger last season had 11 points for the entire season, but finished the game with 15 points. Geiger is currently third on the team in scoring, averaging 12.2 points. Geiger seven times this season has scored in double digits, and has 110 total points. Geiger scored a career-best 21 points against Northland College.
- Sophomore transfer Brandon Gilbertson has earned starts in five games and is averaging 5.2 points. He had a season-best 10 points against McMurry in his first start.
- Junior transfer Kyle Williams has come off the bench to average 5.9 points, but has made his mark early with steals, recording seven against Bethany Lutheran, and now has 16 steals, averaging 1.8 per contest to rank fifth in the WIAC. With 32 assists, good for fifth in the WIAC, Williams is second in the league in assist to turnover ratio. Williams, who comes off the bench, currently has a team-best 32 assists to seven turnovers for a ratio of 4.57, ranking sixth nationally. Williams 4.4 rebounds ranks 14th in the WIAC.
- The 96 points scored against Silver Lake is the most since scoring scoring 109 against Crown College in February, 2011. Stout scored 94 against Silver Lake College last December.

During the 2016-17 season, Keefe scored in double figures in 19 of 26 games, and scored a career-high 32 against former WIAC foe UW-Superior in November. With the conference's leading scorer, John Keefe, and the Blue Devils' assists leader, Kyle Williams, out for the night, Stout (6-4) had to overcome some first half adversity to gut out a win over the pesky Lumberjacks. - The Lumberjacks lost a conference contest, 70-63, to Bethany Lutheran College, Dec. 15. The Jacks fell behind early to start the first half, as the Vikings would start the game on a 7-2 run. However, it didn't take the Jacks long to find their offensive rhythm as they quickly took the lead with a 10-0 run of their own. The Vikings came back to tie it up, but the Jacks again regained the lead. The Jacks continued to hit their shots and built their lead to ten over the Vikings. The Jacks went into halftime with a 35-28 lead intact. The Vikings struck first to start the second half, eventually getting to within one of the Jacks. The teams would trade leads multiple times throughout the second half, as they would trade shots with one another. The Jacks started to pull away with a 53-47 lead over the Vikings, but the Vikings would rally back and tie it up at 58-58. A four point play by the Vikings with under a minute remaining in the game would give them a lead that they wouldn't lose. Modesta Britten led the Jacks with 19 points, while Brandon Galland recorded 17. Britten led the team with 5 rebounds, while Ben Arqueros Jr. and Hunter Moe each grabbed 4.

Stout, on the other hand, was enjoying their largest halftime lead in over 15 years after shooting 64 percent from the field. Jarvis Ragland was a huge contributor to the first half explosion, scoring six of Stout's first eight points, and had a game-high 13 points at the break. He got things going early when he posterized Northland's Dillon Riehle by throwing down a slam dunk while absorbing a foul from Riehle on the play. - Lake served at Ferris State University for a total of 10 years, the last five years beginning with the 2013-14 season as the program's top assistant men's basketball coach. Lake had served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bulldogs in two different stints over the previous decade, working as a part-time assistant coach from 2011-13 before moving up to the full-time lead position, and as a volunteer assistant coach from 2003-06.
- During five seasons as the Bulldogs' top assistant coach, Lake helped Ferris State to four consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament championships and four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, culminating in a 38-1 overall record and the 2018 NCAA Division II national title with a 71-69 win over Northern State University in March.

- Scott Sorenson begins his fourth year leading the Northland College Men's Basketball Program. Over the past three seasons, Sorenson has helped start a new era in LumberJack basketball. Before arriving at Northland, Sorenson was a six-year veteran of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, spending the previous 4 seasons as the top assistant coach at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). Sorenson also used his coaching prowess to serve as an assistant for the UMC softball team. Prior to his time at UMC, Sorenson spent two seasons helping rebuild the men's basketball program at Bemidji State University. He also served as Head Women's Tennis Coach for the Beavers where his program set a school record for wins in a season and he coached the 2008 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Most Valuable Player. Preceding his stint at Bemidji State, Sorenson served two years as an assistant coach at Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wis. under former UW-Green Bay standout Gary Grzesk. While at Lakeland, Sorenson helped lead the Muskies to a Lake Michigan Conference Championship in 2006.
