THE BLUE DEVILS IN 2018-19
- After easing into the first games of the season, John Keefe returned to form at the UW-Stout Tip Off Classic, hitting a career-best 33 points in an overtime loss to McMurry University. Keefe added 19 points in a win over Bethel University and is leading the team with a 17.8 per game average. Keefe has hit 22 of 56 shots from the floor and 11 of 37 from 3-point range.  Keefe missed all but the first two minutes of the 2017-18 season due to injury. The super-senior averaged 26 minutes over the four games. Keefe currently has 944 career points.Â
- Zach Dahl has overcome a cold start from the floor. The senior captain did not hit a shot from the floor in the first two games, scoring only two points from the free throw line. But Dahl has punched that slow start away, scoring 18 points against McMurry in game three and 13 points the following night and is now averaging 8.3 points per game. Dahl is second on the team in minutes played behind Keefe.
- Jon Ciriacks played the first two games of the season, but missed the second set of games. When Ciriacks returns to the lineup, he is averaging a double-double with 13.5 points and 10.0 rebounds. During his freshman season, Ciriacks averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds.Â

Keefe dished off at least two assists in every game and had four or more assists in 16 games. BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
- The Blue Devils went 1-1 at their own UW-Stout Tip Off Classic, falling in overtime, 79-75, Nov. 16, but bounced back for a 91-80 win over Bethel University, Nov. 17.
- For the second night in a row in their own tournament, UW-Stout trailed by as much as 16 points at one point in the game and came back to take the lead. But unlike the previous night, the Blue Devils did not allow the game into overtime and went on to a 91-80 win over Bethel University Saturday in the final game of the UW-Stout Tip Off Classic. The Blue Devils (3-1) trailed by 16 midway through the first half and it took until the second half before Stout took the lead on a 3-pointer by Braden Walbeck with about seven minutes left to play. The Royals (1-1) tied the game on a basket by Derek Magnuson moments later. But in a heated game, the Royals were called for a technical and Zach Dahl drained both shots to give Stout a 77-75 lead, a lead the Blue Devils would not relinquish the rest of the way. John Keefe led Stout in scoring for the second consecutive night, scoring 19 points. Luke Geiger finished with 17 points, his third game of the season scoring in double digits. Dahl and Garret Parks each scored 13 points. Parks led Stout in rebounds with seven. | Game Story and Statistics
- UW-Stout rallied back from a 16 point deficit midway through the second half to force overtime, but the Blue Devils came up short in the extra period as they fell to McMurry University in Stout's Tip Off Classic Friday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse. Keefe led all scorers with a career-high 33 points, hitting 10 of 23 from the floor, knocking down 4 of 14 3-pointers and 9 of 12 free throws. Dahl had his best scoring game so far of the short season, dropping in 18 points, hitting 6 of 8 from the floor, connecting on all five of his 3-point shots. Brandon Gilbertson got into double digits with 10 points. | Game Story and Statistics
SCOUTING BETHANY LUTHERAN
- Last year was a memorable season for Bethany Lutheran College men's basketball as it captured both the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season and postseason tournament titles to make its first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. The Vikings followed that up with a dominant upset win in the opening round over Saint John's University for the program's first NCAA postseason win. The Vikings are tabbed to win the conference again this season. Last season, Bethany Lutheran finished with a 13-3 overall record and one game ahead of the College of St. Scholastica and two ahead of the University of Northwestern to earn the top seed in the UMAC postseason tournament. In the semifinal round, the Vikings shut down the University of Minnesota Morris 112-69 before ending Northwestern's postseason championship streak at seven in a row. In conference games last year, the Vikings averaged a conference-best 84.4 points per game (ppg) and 40.9 rebounds per game (rpg). They topped the All-UMAC list with four selections, but will need to find a replacement for three of those individuals. Trenton Krueger returns for the Vikings after earning All-UMAC honors in his first season. The junior averaged 14.1 ppg in UMAC play and 7.3 rpg. He shot 57.1 percent from the field and added just over one block per game. Joining Krueger is the 2017-18 Rookie fo the Year Jake Dale who averaged 9.9 ppg as a rookie. Senior guard Blake Lindstrom will also step up to help lead a talented group of incoming players who should replenish the Vikings' depth during their quest to defending their title.Â

THE VIKINGS LAST TIME OUT
- Bethany Lutheran College continued their tough non-conference schedule on Saturday by hosting St. Olaf. The Oles were a NCAA Tournament team last year and were picked to finish 2nd in the MIAC this year. The halftime score was close, the Vikings were down by just one points, but the Oles would pull away in the second half and win by a final score of 81-68. Austin Korba scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Oles in the win. The Vikings got 22 points and seven assists from Cire Mayfield. Jared Milinkovich and Jarred Merchant both scored 10 points with seven rebounds for BLC. Bethany finished the game 24-59 from the field for 40.7%. The Oles were 27-61 from the field for 44.3%. The Vikings committed 17 turnovers which the Oles turned into 16 points compared to just eight points off turnovers for BLC. The Vikings attacked the basket hard and held a 40-28 advantage on points in the paint, but the Oles made 10 shots from deep compared to just three for the Vikings. | Game Story and Statistics
THE LAST TIME STOUT AND BETHANY LUTHERAN MET
- All five UW-Stout starters scored in double digits, but the Blue Devils could not keep up with Bethany Lutheran College's long-range shooting and the Vikings downed the Blue Devils 84-69 Nov. 29, 2017, on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Vikings (2-4) drained 14-of-28 shots from beyond the arc, including dropping in nine 3-pointers in the first half to take a 44-39 lead at intermission. Bethany shot out to a 10 point, 49-39, lead just a minute into the second half, but Stout (3-3) cut the lead to two points, 49-47, as Zach Dahl scored four points in the run and Sam Ortmann and Brandyn Christman each scored a bucket. But the Vikings would slowly extend their lead, first to five points, then hang around a seven or eight point lead. Bethany reached an 11 point lead, 73-62, with 4:29 left, and finished on an 11-7 advantage. Brady Rose and Trenton Krueger each scored 22 points, with Rose scoring 19 in the first half for the visitors. Bradley Rose added 10 points. Stout was led by Dahl's career-best 17 points, hitting 6-of-10 from the field, with a 3-pointer, and 5-of-5 from the line. Keegan Dickson chipped in 13 points. Ortmann, Joe Duty and Isaac Elliott each scored 10 points. | Game Story and Statistics
SCOUTING THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN
- Northwestern stepped up big time last season after losing five starters from the year previous and managed to put the Vikings on their heels in the tournament championship game before falling by just six point int he waning seconds of the game. All-UMAC Second Team selection Tanner Youngberg returns after averaging 13.6 ppg in conference play and leading the league with 57.2 percent field goal shooting. Caleb Hageman was also a threat offensively earning him Honorable Mention honors as a junior. Anderson Bazile, Jr. is an experience senior who should help the Eagles start off on a strong foot in 2018-19 and challenge to take back the UMAC championship title..
