Bethel University (0-0, 0-0 MIAC), Saturday, Nov. 17. The Royals will play UW-Eau Claire on the first day of the tournament. On Saturday, UW-Eau Claire will play McMurry at 5 p.m., followed by UW-Stout and Bethel University at 7 p.m.

A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
- Jim Lake begins his first year at the helm of the Blue Devils, coming to Menomonie after coaching at Ferris State University where the Bulldogs won the NCAA Division II national title last season.
- Stout was picked to finish eighth in the WIAC in a preseason poll conducted by league coaches and sports information directors.
- Team captains for the 2018-19 season are seniors John Keefe and Zach Dahl and sophomore Jon Ciriacks.
- Also returning from last season are: Luke Geiger, Josh Mericle, Tanner Schmitt, Brady Booth and Trey Hake. Braden Walbeck and D'Marcco Patrick return after not having played last season.
- Dahl had a breakout season last year, averaging 9.4 points per contest, playing in 24 games and starting 20. Dahl had a career night with 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists against UW-Whitewater. He led the team in rebounds from the guard position.
- Ciriacks came off the bench in 19 games during his freshman season to average 4.2 points per contest and 2.2 rebounds.
- Keefe returns for his super senior season. The Blue Devils' leading scorer from the 2016-17 season made it less than two minutes into last season when he was injured in the season opener and was lost for the entire season. Keefe was injured when he laid in his only basket of the season. During the 2016-17 season, Keefe scored in double figures in 19 of 26 games, and scored a career-high 32 against former WIAC foe UW-Superior in November. Keefe dished off at least two assists in every game and had four or more assists in 16 games. Keefe led Stout in all major categories, including points per game (15.0), rebounds/game (6.2), assists/game (4.6), steals/game (1.5), and minutes/game (35.5). Keefe was fifth in the WIAC in points, fourth in rebounds and first in assists and minutes/game. In addition, Keefe had top six statistical finishes in the conference in free throw percentage (.828, 6th), 3-point field goals made (2.15, 5th) and assist/turnover ratio (2.38, 2nd). Keefe was a WIAC all-conference honorable mention selection
- For Keefe's career, he has 873 points, ranking him 37th on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list. His 391 single season point total from 2016-17 is 31st on the Stout single season list. Keefe is 14th on the all-time assist board with 251 and is ninth on the number of 3-pointers made, going 133-355 for his career.
- The Blue Devils last year averaged 69.6 points per game and gave up 74.9. Stout lost their three leading scorers - Issac Elliott, Sam Ortmann and Joe Duty, who combined to average 39.0 points per game. Dahl was the team's fourth-leading scorer, averaging 9.7 points.

THE BLUE DEVILS IN 2018-19
- After the first two games of the season, Jon Ciriacks is averaging a double-double with 13.5 points and 10.0 rebounds. During his freshman season, Ciriacks averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds.
- Sophomore Luke Geiger exceeded his entire freshman season scoring during the Blue Devils' overtime win over Lawrence. Geiger last season had 11 points for the entire season, but finished the game with 15 points. He added an 11 point effort against Finlandia and is averaging 13.0 points. Geiger has hit 10 of 23 shots from the floor and 4 of 12 from 3-point range.
- After a year off, Braden Walbeck is averaging 10 points, dropping in eight against Lawrence and 12 against Finlandia.
- Freshmen Kaden Koski and Garret Parks have flexed a little muscle underneath. Averaging 15.5 minutes, Parks is averaging 5.5 rebounds. Koski has started two games and is averaging 5.0 rebounds. Koski is averaging 17.5 minutes.
- John Keefe returned to the Blue Devil lineup after missing all but a couple of minutes last season. The super-senior averaged 22 minutes over the two games, but it took him a little bit to get warmed up. In the overtime win over Lawrence, Keefe scored six points in regulation, but took over in the extra period, scoring six points to finish the game with 12 points.
- As a team, Stout is averaging 81.5 points per game and giving up 69.5 points.

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
- The Blue Devils went 2-0 at the UW-Superior Merrill Thompson Classic, downing Lawrence University, 79-74, in overtime and Finlandia University, 84-65.
- UW-Stout opened the season with a 79-74 overtime win over Lawrence University in the first game of the Merrill Thompson Classic at UW-Superior. With the scored tied at 68 at the end of regulation, the Blue Devils' John Keefe, in his first game back since being injured in the first game of last season, scored six of his 12 points in the overtime period as Stout outscored the Vikings 11-4 in the extra five minutes. Jon Ciriacks punched in 16 points, 10 in the second half, and pulled down 13 rebounds to finish with his first career double-double. - Against Finlandia, UW-Stout outscored Finlandia University 48-30 in the second half and went on to down the Lions, 84-65, Saturday at the Merrill Thompson Classic at UW-Superior. Jon Ciriacks scored nine of this 11 points in the second to lead the Blue Devils' charge. Braden Walbeck led Stout with 12 points, seven in the second half. SCOUTING McMURRY UNIVERSITY
- The War Hawks went 9-16, 6-11 American Southwest Conference in 2017-18. The team graduated its leading scorer, LaRandall Scroggins, who averaged 13.4 points per game.
- McMurry was predicted to finish sixth in the ASC West Division in the conference preseason poll. Sul Ross State was picked to win the West while LeTourneau was tabbed to win the East Division.
- Junior guard Zacc Carter was named to the ASC Preseason Watch List. He earned ASC West Division honorable mention honors last year after averaging 10.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
- Carter is the top returning scorer for the War Hawks at 10.4 points per game last season. Junior forward Mike Williams Jr. also returns after grabbing a team-high 6.6 rebounds per contest a year ago. GuardsDedrick Berry Jr., Shakur Smith, Elijah Johnson and Colin Taylor also return to the War Hawks' backcourt.
- McMurry added two new faces to the squad for 2018-19. Senior forward Jordan Jackson transferred to the War Hawks after a year at NCAA II Glenville State and freshman guard Jordan Sherman comes to the War Hawks from Estacado High School in Lubbock, Texas. Jackson also played two years for Division I school Florida A&M University.
- This will be the first meeting between UW-Stout and McMurry. The War Hawks have a tiny history of playing WIAC schools, hosting UW-Platteville in 2015-16 and played UW-Oshkosh in 1999-2000.

SCOUTING BETHEL UNIVERSITY
- Bethel returns four starters from the 2017-18 season in which they advanced to the MIAC Championship game for the third time in the last four years after a third place regular season finish. The Royals have posted identical 21-7 overall records each of the past two seasons. Seniors Derek Magnuson and Matt Ambriz are joined by juniors Granger Kingland and Jack Jenson as the returning starters who together combined to score 49.2 points and grab 20 rebounds per game.
- Bethel garnered a pair of first-place votes to settle in at No. 3 in the MIAC Coaches' Poll with 83 total points. The Royals have reached the MIAC Playoff Championship in three of the last four seasons and are anticipated to be back in the mix once again this year. Second Team All-MIAC guard Granger Kingland played 32.8 minutes per game last season - second among MIAC competitors - and ranked fifth in the Conference with a career-high 389 points.

THE LAST TIME BETHEL AND STOUT MET
- The Blue Devils hold a 15-1 record over the Royals, a series that began in 1964-65 with a Stout 76-60 win. The Royals only win over the Blue Devils came during the 1982-83 season, a 20-point, 89-69 decision. Stout has won the last eight meetings, a 72-55 win during the 2013-14 season in Johnson Fieldhouse.
- UW-Stout shot out of the opening gates, took a comfortable 12 point lead seven minutes into the game on their way to a 72-55 win over Bethel University in the Blue Devils' home opener Nov. 19, 2013, at Johnson Fieldhouse. The Blue Devils' Debonair Townsend scored only two points in the game, but he got Stout going with a monster dunk for the first points of the game. The Royals answered back with a bucket by Brycen Wojta, but it would be Bethel's only points for the next 10 minutes as Stout jumped to a 25-2 lead with nine minutes left on the first hand clock. Aaron Jenny scored seven of his 11 first half points in the run. The Royals would only get as close as 15 points in the waning minutes of the game. | Game Story and Statistics
SCOUTING UW-EAU CLAIRE
- The Blue Devils don't play Eau Claire until the conference season in January, but the Blugolds will be the home team in Johnson Fieldhouse when they play Bethel University and McMurry University.
- UW-Eau Claire's Cole Rabedeaux, Ben Widdes and Clay Kujawa all appeared in every game last season. Rabedeaux, a junior guard, is the team's leading returning scorer at 6.7 points per contest and added 22 assists and 22 steals. Widdes, a senior guard, contributed 5.4 points per game, while Kujawa, a sophomore forward, grabbed 60 rebounds.The Blugolds finished 2017-18 with a 12-13 overall record.
- Eau Claire defeated No. 23-ranked St. Olaf College (Minn.) in their home opener 80-75 Nov. 8 at Zorn Arena. Cole Rabedeaux had 21 points to lead the Blugolds; Ben Widdes finished with 15 points, five assists and led Eau Claire with eight rebounds. | Game Story and Statistics

Joe Duty was selected as the UW-Stout/Toppers Athlete of the Week, Dec. 12, after scoring 19 points in a win over Finlandia University. Duty also had five assists in a win at Silver Lake College.
BLUE DEVIL HISTORY: UW-Stout, then Stout Institute, played their first game Jan. 11, 1907, hosting the University of Wisconsin at the Armory in Menomonie. The Badgers handed the Trainers a 29-19 loss.
UW-STOUT COACH JIM LAKE
- Jim Lake (0-0) begins his first season as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Lake came to Stout after 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Ferris State. The Bulldogs won the 2017-18 NCAA Division II national title.
- Lake served at Ferris State University for a total of 10 years, the last five years beginning with the 2013-14 season as the program's top assistant men's basketball coach. Lake had served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bulldogs in two different stints over the previous decade, working as a part-time assistant coach from 2011-13 before moving up to the full-time lead position, and as a volunteer assistant coach from 2003-06.
- During five seasons as the Bulldogs' top assistant coach, Lake helped Ferris State to four consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament championships and four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, culminating in a 38-1 overall record and the 2018 NCAA Division II national title with a 71-69 win over Northern State University in March.
MCMURRY UNIVERSITY:
- Zach Pickelman (21-54) enters his fourth season at the helm of the War Hawks, coming of back-to-back 9-16 seasons. Pickelman was introduced as the 16th men's basketball head coach in McM school history on April 9, 2015. Pickelman also serves as McMurry's Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations. In 2017-18, McM once again went 9-16 (6-11 in the American Southwest Conference). Senior LaRandall Scroggins and sophomore Zacc Carter both received ASC All-West Division honors. The 2016-17 War Hawks improved to 9-16 overall (5-12 in a tough ASC race). Pickelman's young roster placed three players on the ASC West All-Freshman team, including Freshman of the Year Kaan Yilmaz. In his first season at the War Hawks' helm in 2015-16, the team went 3-22 on a roster with just three seniors. Pickelman came to McM after serving on the men's basketball coaching staff at nearby Hardin-Simmons University since 2007. Pickelman was a graduate assistant for the Cowboys from 2007-09 and the program's assistant coach from 2009-2015 under Craig Carse.
BETHEL UNIVERSITY:
- Doug Novak is entering his sixth season as the head men's basketball coach at Bethel University after spending the seven previous years as a top assistant at the NCAA Division I level. Record of 93-45 in five seasons at Bethel—the highest winning percentage (.674) of any Bethel basketball coach. Led the Royals to a share of the programs first-ever MIAC regular season championship, second-ever MIAC Playoff championship and second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017. Identical 21-7 records during both the 2017 and 2018 seasons tied the program record for wins, previously set in 2002. Five consecutive MIAC Playoff appearances, advancing to the semifinals twice (2014, 2016) and the championship game three times (2015, 2017, 2018), while hosting the championship game in both 2017 & 2018
UW-EAU CLAIRE:
- Matt Siverling enters his sixth season as head men's basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2017-2018. Between 2004-2007 he was assistant men's basketball coach at UW-Eau Claire. The Blugold's finished off their 2016-2017 season in fourth place in the WIAC with an 8-6 record, and a 18-8 record overall. Prior to his return to Eau Claire, Siverling was the head men's basketball coach at UW-Superior for two seasons. With the Yellowjackets he led the team to two WIAC Tournament appearances. In 2011-2012 his 8-8 conference record was the team's best WIAC mark in 10 seasons. Assistant coach Josh Turnquist was a graduate assistant coach at Stout last season.
CONFERENCES: Stout is a member of the eight team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater and UW-River Falls. UW-Oshkosh is projected to win the conference crown, according to a preseason poll conducted by WIAC coaches and sports information directors, followed by: UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Whitewater, UW-La Crosse, UW-River Falls, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout. McMurry, located in Abilene, Texas, is a mamber of the American Southwest Conference (ASC) and Bethel University if a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conferfence (MIAC).
DEWEY MINTZ COURT: The basketball court in Johnson Fieldhouse was named Dewey Mintz Court, Dec. 10, in honor of 27-year Blue Devil coach Dwain Mintz, who coached the Blue Devil men's basketball team from 1962-1989. Nearly 30 years after he retired, Mintz is currently fourth on the WIAC all-time men's basketball coaches wins list with a record of 385-280.Mintz coached league contenders throughout his tenure at UW-Stout from 1963-89, including conference championships in 1966, 1969 and 1975. He was the NAIA District 14 Coach of the Year in 1966 and 1973, and NAIA Area IV Coach of the Year in 1969. During his 27 years at UW-Stout, Dewey Mintz Court is the fifth floor named among member schools in the WIAC. The others include: Bo Ryan Court at UW-Platteville; Ken Anderson Court at UW-Eau Claire; Dave "Augie" Vander Meulen Court at UW-Whitewater; and Bennett Court at UW-Stevens Point, named in honor of Dick and Jack Bennett.
