A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
- The Blue Devils are getting double-digit scoring from four players, with seniors Isaac Elliott and Sam Ortmann leading the way. Elliott, coming off his first career double-double a week ago, is averaging 14.8 points per game with Ortmann tossing in 12.83points. Both are averaging 3.7 rebounds. Elliott is fourth in the WIAC in scoring and Ortmann is 15th. Elliott is sixth in the WIAC in 3-pointers made, dropping in 28 of 70 long-range shots. Ortmann is 12th in the league, hitting 20of 42. Junior Zach Dahl has earned his spot in the starting lineup this season and is averaging 11.1 points per contest and leads the team in rebounds with 4.4. Freshman Joe Duty has started the last 13 games and is averaging 10.9 points, tops of all freshmen in the WIAC. The Blue Devils are averaging 73.7 points per game and are giving up 73.7.
- The Blue Devils return nine players from last year's roster: John Keefe (Sr, Medford), Sam Ortmann (Sr, Buffalo, Minn), Keegan Dickson (Jr, Apple Valley, Minn), Isaac Elliott (Sr, Stevens Point), Adam Mackey (Sr, Ironwood, Mich), Zach Dahl (Jr, Buffalo, Minn), Brandyn Christman (Sr, Rice Lake), Peyton Fulkerson (So, Lodi) and Tanner Schmitt (So, Coon Valley). But Stout's leading scorer from the last two years, Keefe, was knocked out for the season in the season-opener.
- Stout was picked to finish eighth in a 2017-18 preseason poll conducted by WIAC coaches and sports information directors

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
- Freshman Joe Duty scored a career- and game-high 24 points, but it wouldn't be near enough for UW-Stout as the Blue Devils were downed at 13th-ranked UW-Oshkosh, 89-66, Wednesday.
- The Blue Devils had to play catch-up all night as the Titans jumped out to a 9-0 lead after only two minutes and fell behind 20-4 after seven minutes, then trailed 48-29 at halftime.
- Stout shot 34.6 percent (9 of 26) in the first half and finished the game shooting 39.4 percent (21 of 53). The Titans shot 60.7 percent (17 of 28) in the first half, finishing the game by shooting 53.4 percent (31 of 58). Oshkosh connected on 12 3-points for the game, eight in the first half.
- The Blue Devils lost 73-54 to UW-Platteville, Jan. 3, in the conference opener, then were tipped by UW-Stevens Point, 68-65, Jan. 6.
- Sam Ortmann scored UW-Stout's final eight points of the game to pull the Blue Devils to within one point of UW-Stevens Point, but the Pointers staved off the Blue Devils for a 68-65 win on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse Saturday. The Pointers (8-5, 2-0 WIAC) scored their final 10 points from the free throw line, not missing an attempt in 10 chances in the final 1-minute, 25-seconds.
- Ortmann hit a 3-pointer with 32 seconds left to pull Stout (6-7, 0-2 WIAC) to within 64-60. The Pointers' MJ Delmore pushed the lead back to six with a pair of charity shots. Ortmann answered again with a layup 12 second later to cut the lead back down to four, then, following a Stevens Point turnover, rattled a 3-point bucket six seconds later to pull the Blue Devils to within 66-65.
- The Blue Devils still had a chance to tie the game, but a 3-point attempt was blocked by Brett Tauber and the Pointers regained the ball to seal the win.
- Ortmann finished the night with 14 points. Isaac Elliott led the Blue Devils with a game-high 22 points. Zach Dahl had 13 points and Joe Duty 12.
- UW-Stout was forced to play catch-up all night long as UW-Platteville gave the Blue Devils a 73-54 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) loss at Johnson Fieldhouse Wednesday. The Blue Devils (6-6, 0-1 WIAC) trailed from the get-go and trailed by as much as 13 points midway through the first half, but pulled the score back to within seven, 32-25, just before halftime. Platteville scored the final seven points of the half to take a 39-25 halftime lead.The Pioneers (11-1, 1-0 WIAC) shot seven 3-pointers in the first half and finished the night with nine field goals from beyond the arc.
- Platteville had three players score in double digits with Carter Voelker leading the way with 14 points, hitting two triples. Matt Oestrich and Robert Duax each scored 11 points.
- Zach Dahl led Stout with 14 points, going 5 of 9 from the floor and 4 of 4 from the line. Adam Mackey scored 11 points, including one of Stout's three 3-point baskets.

CLEANING THE GLASS
- When the Blue Devils pulled down 57 rebounds in a 96-86 loss to the University of Puget Sound, Dec. 30, in Spokane, Wash, it was the most rebounds by a Stout team since Nov. 24, 2012, when they yanked down 56 against Northland College in the opening game of the UW-Stout Turkey Shootout. Against Puget Sound, Isaac Elliott recorded a career-best 10 rebounds. Zach Dahl yanked down nine boards, which would have been a career-best but the junior guard had recorded a collegiate-best 11 boards the previous night with 11 caroms. Joe Duty also had a career-best against Puget Sound with eight rebounds.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES
- The Blue Devils had recorded only one double-double coming into the Whitworth University Classic, but racked up a pair of doubles, once in each game. Zach Dahl tossed in 15 points and recorded a career-best 11 rebounds against host Whitworth, Dec. 29. The following night, fellow guard Isaac Elliott recorded his first career double-double, scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds against Puget Sound, Dec. 30.

SCOUTING UW-OSHKOSH
- The Titans opened the season on a 10-game winning streak, before they dropped two in a row, losing their first game, 83-80, to Ripon College, then opening with conference season with an 83-57 loss to UW-Whitewater.
- The Titans, the second leading offensive team in the WIAC averaging 77.9 points, have all five starting players in double figures, led by Ben Boots' 14.9, Adam Fravert with 13.8, Jack Flynn with 13.2, Brett Wittchow with 11.6 and Charlie Noone with 10.7 points. Wittchow missed three games, but was back in the line-up for the conference season. The Titans have drained 201 of 288 free throws, second in the WIAC only to UW-Whitewater, which has made 207. But the Titans' opponents have had 100 less free throw opportunities, hitting 126 of 188. Defensively, the Titans allow 66.8 points.
- Fravert and Flynn lead a team that holds a nearly 12 rebound advantage, with each averaging 8.2 rebounds, tied for tops in the WIAC. The Titans pull down 41.8 boards to their opponents' 30.0. The 6-foot-8 Fravert leads the WIAC in blocked shots, averaging 1.38 per contest.
- UW-Oshkosh reached the title game of the WIAC championship a year ago for the third consecutive season and made the program's seventh NCAA championship appearance.
THE TITANS LAST TIME OUT
- Jack Flynn had a career-high 24 points on 9-for-9 shooting from the field and added 10 rebounds as the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team defeated UW-La Crosse, 72-65, on Saturday (Jan. 6) in La Crosse.
- UW-Whitewater made 15 3-pointers – one shy of its program record – en route to defeating UW-Oshkosh, 83-57, in a WIAC-opening matchup of nationally ranked men's basketball teams Jan. 3 in Kolf Sports Center. Whitewater connected on 15 of 25 shots (60 percent) from 3-point range, including eight of its first nine attempts from beyond the arc.

THE LAST TIME OSHKOSH AND STOUT MET
- UW-Oshkosh drained 14 3-point shots on their way to a 73-55 win over UW-Stout in the final regular season game of the year at Johnson Fieldhouse Feb. 18, 2017. The Titans' Charlie Noone led all scorers, putting down seven 3-pointers and finished the afternoon with 23 points. Ben Boots hit three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points. John Lahti led three Blue Devils in double digits with 12 points. John Keefe tossed in 11 points and Braden Walbeck hit two 3-pointers for 10 points.
- UW-Stout had four players in double figures, led by John Lahti's career-best 20 points, as the Blue Devils extended their winning streak to seven by downing UW-Oshkosh, 74-67, Jan. 7, 2017, at Kolf Sports Center. Lahti was 8-for-9 from field goal range and was perfect at the free throw line on all four attempts. John Keefe tossed in 18 points, Cory Speer 17, and Jacob Nordstrom 10, including the final two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach.

SCOUTING UW-WHITEWATER
- UW-Whitewater made their 21st NCAA appearance in program archives. Andre Brown leads the team with 14.0 points. Mitchell Pfeifer has tossed in 13.2 points, David Sachs 13.1 and Derek Rongstad 11.5. Rongstad leads the team off the glass with 7.0 rebounds.
THE WARHAWKS LAST TIME OUT
- Whitewater men's basketball team improved to 6-0 in true road games this season Wednesday night, downing UW-Eau Claire 78-65 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference affair in Eau Claire. The Warhawks shot 52.7 percent from the floor and hit 15-of-17 (88.2 percent) from the free-throw line, and out-scored the Blugolds 45-35 in the second half to pull away.
- Junior guard Andre Brown posted a game-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting and added three rebounds. Junior guard Mitchell Pfeifer tallied 21 points, seven rebounds and two steals, and junior guard David Sachs registered 11 points, three assists and two steals.
- Whitewater was downed by No. 3 UW-River Falls, 81-80, in a conference match-up Feb. 6 at Kachel Gymnasium. Despite hot shooting from the Warhawks, UW-River Falls made a basket with less than two seconds remaining in the game to cap a 15-4 run and earn the victory. Senior Andre Brown and junior Mitchell Pfeifer lead the Warhawks with 18 points each. Junior Dalton Menke contributed 14 points and junior David Sachs tallied 13 points in the contest.

THE LAST TIME WHITEWATER AND STOUT MET
- UW-Stout twice came back from eight to 10 Â point deficits to pull to within one point, but the Blue Devils could not grab a lead and fell to UW-Whitewater, 78-69, Feb. 21, 2017, in Kachel Gymnasium in the first round of the WIAC Championship, presented by Culvers. Stout trailed 27-10 at 8:37 in the first half and pulled to within one, 33-32, at 3:23 only to fall behind 45-37 at halftime. Stout came back to trail again by one, 53-51, at 12:04, but that would be as close as the Blue Devils would get the the rest of the way
- John Lahti scored 16 points, had eight rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots for UW-Stout, but the Blue Devils were defeated by UW-Whitewater, 83-48, Feb. 4, 2017, in Kachel Gymnasium. Lahti scored nine points in the first and had four rebounds as UW-Stout trailed 38-24 at halftime to the 21st ranked Warhawks.
- UW-Stout bounced back from an early deficit to pull to within striking range, but could not hold off UW-Whitewater as the 25th ranked Warhawks took a 65-51 win over the Blue Devils in what would be the first of three meetings of the two teams, Jan. 21, 2017, last season.

Joe Duty was selected as the UW-Stout/Toppers Athlete of the Week, Dec. 12, after scoring 19 points in a win over Finlandia University. Duty also had five assists in a win at Silver Lake College.
BLUE DEVIL HISTORY: UW-Stout, then Stout Institute, played their first game Jan. 11, 1907, hosting the University of Wisconsin at the Armory in Menomonie. The Badgers handed the Trainers a 29-19 loss.
UW-STOUT COACH EDDIE ANDRIST
- Eddie Andrist (209-240 at Stout, 459-431 overall) is in his 18th year as the coach of the Blue Devils, and his 29th overall in the collegiate ranks.
- Andrist led the Blue Devils to their first NCAA Division III appearance six seasons ago when Stout advanced to the second round.
- Andrist coached at Mount Senario for 11 seasons and won three national championships.
- Andrist spent two stints as a UW-Stout assistant, first as a student coach in the 1970s, then again during the 1980s.
- Andrist spent two stints coaching international basketball, working with the country of Qatar
UW-OSHKOSH:
- Pat Juckem (186-146 all / 81-67 Oshkosh) is in his sixth year at UW-Oshkosh and hs 13th season overall. Under Juckom, the Titans have won two straight NCAA Division III Championship appearances during his five seasons at UW-Oshkosh. He has also helped four Titan players garner a total of five All-WIAC first team honors.
- From 2006-12, Juckem was the head coach at Coe College (Iowa). He led the Kohawks to an overall record of 104-80. Coe College won the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) championship during both the 2006 and 2012 seasons.
UW-WHITEWATER:
- Pat Miller (366-106) is in his 17th season at UW-Whitewater. A four-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Miller has led the Warhawks to two NCAA Division III national championships.
- Miller is a 1989 graduate of UW-Whitewater and played three seasons under head coach Dave Vander Meulen. In the 1988-89 season, he was a co-captain of the team that won a national championship (the second in school history and second under Vander Meulen - the first was 1983-84). Miller enjoyed his finest season, averaging 16.6 points per game and knocking down 107-of-223 (.480) from 3-point range, the second-most attempts and third-most makes in school history. That year, he was also tabbed the WIAC Men's Basketball Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Miller ranks third in school history in three-point field goals made, and in three-point field goal percentage, as well as fourth in three-point field goals attempted. Miller was 178-of-371 from three-point range in his career, a .480 percentage.
CONFERENCES: Stout is a member of the eight team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater and UW-River Falls. UW-River Falls is projected to win the conference crown, according to a preseason poll conducted by WIAC coaches and sports information directors, followed by: UW-Whitewater; UW-Oshkosh; UW-Eau Claire; UW-Stevens Point; UW-Platteville; UW-La Crosse; and UW-Stout.
DEWEY MINTZ COURT: The basketball court in Johnson Fieldhouse was named Dewey Mintz Court, Dec. 10, in honor of 27-year Blue Devil coach Dwain Mintz, who coached the Blue Devil men's basketball team from 1962-1989. Nearly 30 years after he retired, Mintz is currently fourth on the WIAC all-time men's basketball coaches wins list with a record of 385-280.Mintz coached league contenders throughout his tenure at UW-Stout from 1963-89, including conference championships in 1966, 1969 and 1975. He was the NAIA District 14 Coach of the Year in 1966 and 1973, and NAIA Area IV Coach of the Year in 1969. During his 27 years at UW-Stout, Dewey Mintz Court is the fifth floor named among member schools in the WIAC. The others include: Bo Ryan Court at UW-Platteville; Ken Anderson Court at UW-Eau Claire; Dave "Augie" Vander Meulen Court at UW-Whitewater; and Bennett Court at UW-Stevens Point, named in honor of Dick and Jack Bennett.
