THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION: The Blue Devils (2-1) will host
Gustavus Adolphus College, Friday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. Friday night is also a Pink Out event in honor of breast cancer awareness!
A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
- UW-Stout's teams scores have done a little bit of bouncing around to start the season, but have stayed above 180 in all three matches. Stout scored 180.725 in a dual loss to Winona State to open the season, then dipped slightly to a 180.350 in a win over UW-Oshkosh later in the week. The Blue Devils had a top-10 all-time score of 186.575 in a win over UW-Eau Claire last week where 15 personal-best marks were set or matched.
- In the latest national rankings posted on the Road to Nationals site, the Blue Devils have three all-arounders in the top 10 of the NCGA in average scores. Sierra Beaver leads Stout with an average score of 37.817 and her all-around score of 37.725 against UW-Eau Claire is the sixth highest on the list. Brooke Terry, in her first year as a collegiate all-arounder, is ranked eighth (36.563) and Mikala Bugge, who is also in her first year as an all-arounder is ranked ninth (36.558). Beaver is currently ranked sixth in the NCGA on the uneven bars (9.425).
- Sophomore Brooke Terry was selected as the WIAC all-arounder of the week after notching four personal bests in the dual win over UW-Eau Claire last week.
- Youth will be served this year. With no seniors and only three juniors, the Blue Devils will be leaning heavily on youth this season. But the seven-member sophomore class is a battle-tested group, as are the three juniors who have been part of two nationally qualifying teams. Those two qualifying teams included last year's fifth place NCGA Championship finish, which was held in Menomonie. The fifth place was Stout's best finish at the NCGA since 1984, but the team was less than a half-point out of third place. Sophomore Mikala Bugge earned All-American honors with a 12th place finish on the vault. MacKenzie Nicholson qualified individually to the NCGA Championship in the uneven bars. Earlier in the season, Nicholson set the school record on the bars with a 9.775.

ROAD TO NATIONALS HONOR ROLL
LAST TIME OUT:
- Stout recorded their second consecutive win, downing UW-Eau Claire, 186.575-185.575, Jan. 19.
- Up-and-down the UW-Stout line-up, the Blue Devils notched 15 personal-best scores to score one of the top team scores in school history as Blue Devils downed UW-Eau Claire, 186.575-185.475, Jan. 19 at Johnson Fieldhouse in the Blue Devils' home opener. Stout's tally of 186.575 ranks ninth on the team's all-time list.
- The Blue Devils got first place finishes from Mikala Bugge on the vault (9.55), Kenzie Hyde on the floor exercise (9.625) and Brooke Terry in the all-around (37.725). Hyde and Terry's first place finishes were personal bests. All six performers on the uneven bars scored personal record performances. Sierra Beaver finished second (9.575), Mallary Dick third (9.550), Bugge fifth (9.325), Terry seventh (9.20), Sierra Coonts eight (9.125) and Cassie Ehmann ninth (9.100).Stout had three personal best performances among their top four finishes on the balance beam. Chelsea Gray was second (9.675), Terry tied a personal best with a third place finish (9.650) and Emma Sirjord was fourth (9.575).
- Terry claimed four personal bests, rounding out the evening with a third place finish on the floor exercise (9.575). Terry scored her best performances on the bars, beam, floor and in the all-around.

A LOOK AT GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS COLLEGE
- The Gusties are 0-3 in dual meets, but scored their highest team mark of the season last time out at UW-Whitewater, a 176.850.
- Gustavus suffered a third consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet setback Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, falling by a score of 176.85-188.5. As a team the Gusties scored season-highs on the vault and floor. Gustavus scored 46.225 on vault, 42.775 on bars, 42.525 on beam, and 45.325 on floor for a season-high total. Amanda Malo and Emily Anderson competed in the all-around, finishing in second and third with scores of 35.225 and 34.775, respectively. Katy Trunk turned in the top finish for the Black and Gold, coming in fourth on the beam with a season-high score of 9.200.
- Sam Ardy earned NCGA All-America honors last season with a fifth place finish at the NCGA Championship held at UW-Stout last spring. Ardy scored a 9.6250. Ardy earned All-WIAC honors last spring with a third place finish. As a team, Gustavus finished seventh at the WIAC Championship/NCGA Midwest Regional.Â
- Aryn DeGrood is in her third season as head gymnastics coach in 2017. A 2009 Gustavus graduate and four-year member of the gymnastics team, DeGrood served as an assistant coach at her alma mater before taking over the reigns as the sixth head coach in the program's history. DeGrood was the 2017 WIAC coach of the year.

Sierra Beaver was selected as the UW-Stout/Toppers Athlete of the Week, Jan. 15, after capturing two first place finishes and three second place finishes as the Blue Devils defeated UW-Oshkosh, 180.350-178.200, Jan. 12 at Kolf Sports Center.
UW-STOUT COACH BECKY BEAULIEU:
- Becky Beaulieu is in her 13th season as the Blue Devil coach.
- Under Beaulieu's direction, UW-Stout gymnasts have earned 43 All-American awards and Beaulieu has coached national champions on the balance beam in 2008, the floor exercise in 2009, the uneven bars in 2010, the vault and floor exercise in 2011, and the floor in 2015.
- A UW-Stout gymnast has qualified and competed at the NCAA Division I regionals in 2009 at the University of Iowa and in 2010 at the University of Utah.
- Beaulieu, competing as Becky McDonnell at UW-La Crosse from 1997-2001, captured back-to-back NCGA floor exercise titles in 1998 and 1999. She established a since-eclipsed school floor exercise record score of 9.8. A seven-time NCGA All-American, she also garnered all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors nine times. The Eagles, for which she was a two-year captain, won two NCGA titles during her competing days.
- In 2012, Beaulieau was selected to the WIAC All-Time Gymnastics Team as the conference celebrated their 100th anniversary.
- Beaulieu was inducted into the UW-La Crosse Wall of Fame in 2016.
WIAC AND NCGA: The
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) is made up of eight schools - UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stout, UW-Whitewater, Hamline University, Gustavus Adolphus College and Winona State University. These eight schools make up the NCGA West Region and are also members of the 14-school
National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA). The six East schools are: SUNY-Brockport, SUNY-Cortland, Ithaca (NY) College, Springfield (Mass) College, Rhode Island College, and Ursinus (Pa) College. Each region holds their own regional meet to determine which teams and individuals will advance to the NCGA Championship. The championship is alternated yearly between the East and the West, with the West hosting the event generally during the odd years.
