THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (5-3, 0-0 WIAC) defeated, 94-59, Silver Lake College, (1-9) Thursday, Dec. 7 Stout returns home Sunday, Dec. 10 to host Finlandia University (2-4) at 12 p.m. UW-Stout and Finlandia University are both coming off wins over the past few days, Stout a 94-59 win at Silver Lake College Thursday in Manitowoc and Finlandia a 77-73 win Friday at Crown College. The Blue Devils opened the season with a 79-75 win over Crown in November. Finlandia's first win of the season came over Marian University, 65-57, a team Stout beat 84-77 to open the UW-Stout Tip-Off Tournament.

A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
- The Blue Devils are led in scoring by senior Isaac Elliott, who is averaging 15.8 points per contest. Elliott is ranked sixth in the WIAC in scoring and leads the team in 3-pointers, hitting 19-of-43, fifth in the WIAC in 3-pointers made (2.29). Fellow senior Sam Ortmann is averaging 13.1 points per contest, 14th in the WIAC. Keegan Dickson has upped his scoring average to 9.7 points and leads the team in rebounds with 4.3. Dickson has eight blocked shots and is second in the league with 1.14 per contest. Junior transfer Brandon Emery is putting up 9.4 points and the guard is averaging 3.4 rebounds. Zach Dahl has started the last four games and is averaging 8.8 points and 3.6 rebounds.
- Playing in all eight games and starting seven, freshman Joe Duty is averaging 8.8 points per game, best of all freshmen in the WIAC.
- Keegan Dickson is tied for the conference lead in blocked shots with five.
- As a team, the Blue Devils are averaging 75.8 points per game and are giving up 71.2.
- Brandon Emery scored a double-double in his first Blue Devil appearance. The junior college transfer scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in his UW-Stout debut against Crown College, Nov. 15. Against Colorado College, Emery sent the game into overtime with his layup with less than a second left on the clock.
- Freshman Joe Duty scored 21 points in the win over Marian University and played 34 minutes.
- The Blue Devils return nine players from last year's roster: John Keefe (Sr, Medford), Sam Ortmann (Sr, Buffalo, Minn), Keegan Dickson (Jr, Apple Valley, Minn), Isaac Elliott (Sr, Stevens Point), Adam Mackey (Sr, Ironwood, Mich), Zach Dahl (Jr, Buffalo, Minn), Brandyn Christman (Sr, Rice Lake), Peyton Fulkerson (So, Lodi) and Tanner Schmitt (So, Coon Valley).

A LOOK BACK AT LAST SEASON
- John Keefe scored in double figures in 19 of 26 games, and scored a career-high 32 against former WIAC foe UW-Superior in November. Keefe dished off at least two assists in every game and had four or more assists in 16 games.
- John Keefe led Stout in all major categories, including points per game (15.0), rebounds/game (6.2), assists/game (4.6), steals/game (1.5), and minutes/game (35.5). Keefe was fifth in the WIAC in points, fourth in rebounds and first in assists and minutes/game. In addition, Keefe had top six statistical finishes in the conference in free throw percentage (.828, 6th), 3-point field goals made (2.15, 5th) and assist/turnover ratio (2.38, 2nd). Keefe was a WIAC all-conference honorable mention selection.
- For Keefe's career, he has 873 points, ranking him 37th on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list. His 391 single season point total from last season is 31st on the Stout single season list. Keefe is 14th on the all-time assist board with 251 and is ninth on the number of 3-pointers made, going 133-355 for his career.
- Sam Ortmann was second on the team in minutes at 29.6 per game, and is a consistent scoring option, getting 7.9 per game and shooting 46 percent.
- The Blue Devils averaged 69.1 points per game and gave up 73.0.
- Stout finished the 2016-17 season at 13-13 overall, 4-10 for seventh in the conference and advanced to the first round of the WIAC tournament where they lost to UW-Whitewater, 78-69

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
- UW-Stout ran out to a 17-point halftime lead and kept the offensive pressure on in the second half as the Blue Devils had four players score in double digits on their way to a 94-59 win over Silver Lake College Thursday at the UW-Manitowoc gymnasium.
- Sam Ortmann led the Blue Devils with 17 points and Isaac Elliott chipped in 15 points. Adam Mackey and Jon Ciriacks each hit a Stout career-best, with Mackey scoring 13 points and Ciriacks 11.
- The Blue Devils (5-3) built up a 47-30 halftime lead and scored 47 points in the second half to tally the team's highest offensive total of the season. Stout dominated the rebounding game, pulling down 41 rebounds to 20 for the Lakers. Freddy Cook led Silver Lake with 16 points. Drewshawn Dorsey and Kymble Harris each scored 10.
- Stout drained 37-63 (.587) from the floor, 9-17 from the 3-point line and 11-14 from the line. The Lakers hit 21-49 from field goal range, 11-24 from beyond the arc and 6-12 from the charity stripe.

- UW-Stout's Isaac Elliott scored a game-high 21 points and Keegan Dickson scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half as the Blue Devil broke away from a 31-31 halftime score to defeat the University of Northwestern, 70-56, Dec. 2 on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse.
- Stout finished the game shooting 48.1 percent (25-52) and 53.8 percent (14-26) in the second half. The Blue Devil defense pestered the Eagles into 12 second half turnovers, 18 for the game. Elliott and Duty each finished the game with three steals and Brandon Emery and Sam Ortmann each had a pair. Stout closed the game with 11 steals.
- Elliott led all scorers with 21 points, hitting 9-13 from the floor. Dickson finished with 12 points, hitting 5-8 from the floor by 4-5 in the second half. Stout was 15-25 from the free throw line, 10-14 in the second half.
- Jacob Gervais scored 18 points to lead the Eagles. Caleb Hageman chipped in 13 points for Northwestern. The Eagles held a 40-29 advantage off the glass. Tanner Youngberg led all players with 11 rebounds. The Stout defense held the Eagles to only 3-21 shooting from beyond the arc. Northwestern shot 41.4 percent (24-58) from the floor.

HOMEBODIES
- With the exception of two games between Christmas and New Years, UW-Stout does not play a game out of state this season. Stout plays teams from Minnesota, Michigan and Colorado at home this year. Stout does travel to Washington state to play Whitworth University, Dec. 29, and Puget Sound, Dec. 30. Stout has 13 home games in Johnson Fieldhouse this season. Last season, Stout played four games, plus one exhibition game, out of state.
SCOUTING SILVER LAKE COLLEGE
- Dorsey Drewshawn leads the Lakers with 13.5 points and Duckworth is tossing in 10.3 points. The Lakers are being outscored 96.4-65.3. Silver Lake's lone win was an 85-77 win over UW-Manitowoc.

THE LAKERS LAST TIME OUT
- The Lakers committed 21 turnovers and lost an 89-40 decision at St. Xavier University, Dec. 4. Corey Lloyd scored 11 points to lead the Lakers.

- UW-Platteville handily defeated Silver Lake, 87-48, Dec. 2 in Platteville. The Pioneers held the Lakers to just 19 first half points on 7-of-24 shooting. UW-Platteville on the other hand shot 46. percent in the first half including six 3-pointers and held a 42-19 halftime advantage. The Pioneers didn't let up as they shot 60 percent from the field in the second half. Dorsey Dreshawn led all scorers with 16 for the Lakers.

THE LAST TIME SILVER LAKE AND STOUT MET
- UW-Stout and Silver Lake College have not met in Johnson Fieldhouse since the 2010 season, but when they met Jan. 3, the 2017 version started off similar to the 2010 version before Stout finished with an 87-64 win.
- The underdog NAIA Lakers stayed in the game throughout the first half and into the early part of the second half. Silver Lake took a 28-27 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half. Stout rebounded and took the halftime lead at 34-32. Silver Lake knotted the score a minute into the second half at 35 apiece before the Blue Devil spurted out to a seven point lead on free throws by Jacob Nordstrom, a 3 pointer by Brett Ahsenmacher and a layup by Sam Ortmann.
- Stout built the lead up to 12 points at 56-44 with 11 minutes left, then put the Lakers away with a 19-5 run over the next six minutes. Stout would hold as much as a 32 pont lead with five minutes left. Neither team seemed to gain much momentum in the first half, with Stout shooting at a 39.4 percent clip (13-33) and Silver Lake shooting at 38.9 percent (14-36).The Blue Devils' John Keefe flirted with a double-double the first half, scoring eight points and nine rebounds before the halftime buzzer. Keefe would go on to claim his second double-double of the season, leading all scorers with 24 points and a career-best 15 rebounds. Keefe flirted with a triple-double, finishing with seven assists.
- Isaac Elliott came off the bench to score 14 points, nine in the second half, dropping four 3-pointers. Cory Speer also came off the bench to score 12 points, eight in the second half.Stout controlled the boards, pulling down a season-high 51 rebounds, highlighted by Keefe's 15. Ortmann finished with seven rebounds and Nordstrom and Speer finished with five rebounds.
- The Lakers got 16 points from Freddy Cook and 12 points from Stevens Alexis. Alexis also recorded a double-double, adding 12 rebounds.

SCOUTING FINLANDIA UNIVERSITY
- Brandon Robinette is leading the Lions with 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. Ricky Watson is averaging 10.2 points, and Dylan Underwood 9.3 points. Austin Carlson averages 5.7 rebounds and Myles Ellington 5.5 boards. The Lions are averaging 65.3 points, but giving up 78.7.

THE LIONS LAST TIME OUT
- A fast and furious run over the last eight minutes helped the Finlandia University men's basketball team to a come from behind 77-73 win over Crown, College Friday night at St. Bonifacius, Minn. For the first 11 minutes of the game, Crown was in charge. The Storm maintained a lead of 2-5 points for most of that time frame.
- Down five with 9:07 to go, Finlandia began to come back. Freshman Tristan Johnston dropped in a trey and freshman Dylan Underwood had a pair of free throws. That gave the Lions a 35-31 lead with 53 seconds left.
- The first eight minutes of the second half was a back-and-forth affair. Junior Brandon Robinette hit a jumper and a free throw. That gave FinnU a 45-44 lead at the 12:25 mark. Crown then stunned Finlandia with a 15-3 burst over the next four minutes. That gave the Storm a 59-48 lead with 8:49 to go.The Lions began a slow and methodical march back. - The Lions rebounded from a poor first half to take a 65-57 home win over Marian University, Dec. 2. For Finlandia, Ricky Watson finished with 16 points (all in the second half) and was 8-of-8 from the line. Junior Brandon Robinette had 17 points, 15 rebounds (all defensive) and blocked three shots, freshman Dylan Underwood had 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals and freshman Myles Ellington had 10 points.

THE LAST TIME FINLANDIA AND STOUT MET
- The teams met twice during the 2007-08 season, with both winning on their own home floor. Stout won the first contest, 93-89 in overtime, while the Lions won the rematch in Hancock, Mich., 99-84. The teams met in 2006-07 with the Blue Devils taking a 73-58 win. The first meeting between the schools came during the 1999-2000 season when Finlandia was known as Suomi College. Stout captured a 99-47 win.

BLUE DEVIL HISTORY: UW-Stout, then Stout Institute, played their first game Jan. 11, 1907, hosting the University of Wisconsin at the Armory in Menomonie. The Badgers handed the Trainers a 29-19 loss.
UW-STOUT COACH EDDIE ANDRIST
- Eddie Andrist (208-235 at Stout, 458-426 overall) is in his 18th year as the coach of the Blue Devils, and his 29th overall in the collegiate ranks.
- Andrist led the Blue Devils to their first NCAA Division III appearance six seasons ago when Stout advanced to the second round.
- Andrist coached at Mount Senario for 11 seasons and won three national championships.
- Andrist spent two stints as a UW-Stout assistant, first as a student coach in the 1970s, then again during the 1980s.
- Andrist spent two stints coaching international basketball, working with the country of Qatar
SILVER LAKE COACH PAT DOMINO
- Derek Domino, a native of Parkland, Fla., serves as both the interim Athletics Director and the head coach of the Silver Lake College men's basketball team.
- The 2017-2018 season is Coach Domino's first season as Athletics Director and third season at the helm of the basketball team. In addition, he was the lead assistant coach for Silver Lake College in 2014-2015, and for two seasons he assisted in coaching basketball in south Florida.
- Prior to coaching, he played four years of college basketball at the NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III level before transferring to Silver Lake College, where he was the starting point guard and team captain during his senior year.
FINLANDIA UNIVERSITY COACH MIKE O'DONNELL
- Mike O'Donnell is in his fourth season as the head coach of men's basketball at Finlandia University. During his tenure the Lions have produced five All-Association of Division III Independents selection, nine top three additions and two school records. O'Donnell is 27-46 in three years.
- O'Donnell is no stranger to Finlandia as he left his mark on the basketball program. He was the first player in school history to score 1000 career points finishing with 1320 (4th). In 2000-01 O'Donnell was named tournament MVP as he led Finlandia to the National Small College Association Division I National Championship. During the season he set two records that still stand; free throws attempted (170) and rebounds (265). O'Donnell ranks among the top five in 11 career categories and is the all-time leader in free throws made (351), free throws attempted (497), minutes (3509) and rebounds (815).
CONFERENCES: Stout is a member of the eight team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater and UW-River Falls. UW-River Falls is projected to win the conference crown, according to a preseason poll conducted by WIAC coaches and sports information directors, followed by: UW-Whitewater; UW-Oshkosh; UW-Eau Claire; UW-Stevens Point; UW-Platteville; UW-La Crosse; and UW-Stout.
DEWEY MINTZ COURT: The basketball court in Johnson Fieldhouse was named Dewey Mintz Court, Dec. 10, in honor of 27-year Blue Devil coach Dwain Mintz, who coached the Blue Devil men's basketball team from 1962-1989. Nearly 30 years after he retired, Mintz is currently fourth on the WIAC all-time men's basketball coaches wins list with a record of 385-280.Mintz coached league contenders throughout his tenure at UW-Stout from 1963-89, including conference championships in 1966, 1969 and 1975. He was the NAIA District 14 Coach of the Year in 1966 and 1973, and NAIA Area IV Coach of the Year in 1969. During his 27 years at UW-Stout, Dewey Mintz Court is the fifth floor named among member schools in the WIAC. The others include: Bo Ryan Court at UW-Platteville; Ken Anderson Court at UW-Eau Claire; Dave "Augie" Vander Meulen Court at UW-Whitewater; and Bennett Court at UW-Stevens Point, named in honor of Dick and Jack Bennett.
UP NEXT: Stout will travel to Washington state where they will play a pair of games at Whitworth University, meeting Whitworth, Friday, Dec. 29, then will meet the University of Puget Sound, Saturday, Dec. 30. Upon the Blue Devils's return to Menomonie, they will get the conference season started when they host UW-Platteville, Wednesday, Jan. 3.
