THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION: The Blue Devils will open the 2016 season when they host defending national champion UW-La Crosse, Friday, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m.
A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS: The 2016 UW-Stout Blue Devil team is made up of three senior, two juniors, two sophomores and seven freshmen. Half of The Blue Devil team consists of returnees that qualified as a team for 2015 NCGA Championship. The defending national floor champion,
Kaylee Jondahl (Jr, Anoka, Minn.), leads the team as they emerge into the new season. Seniors
Randi Schorzman and
Sara Perez serve as the backbone of the team with their extensive national experience and proven reliability in key events such as bars (Perez) and beam (Schorzman). The other half of the Blue Devils consist of fresh talent that will considerably change the dynamic of the team. Freshman Brittani Lehman and Gina
Guarnieri are ones to keep an eye on throughout the season.Â
WIAC HONOR ROLL: Before the WIAC Championship,
Kaylee Jondahl is currently ranked fourth on the WIAC Honor Roll on the vault (9.700), fifth on the floor exercise (9.750) and fourth in the league in the all-around (37.825). Freshman
Kenzie Hyde is ranked fifth on the vault (9.650), 12th on the uneven bars (9.575), and seventh in the all-around (37.450).
Sara Perez is 13th on the uneven bars (9.550).
Randi Schorzman is seventh on the balance beam (9.625). The Honor Roll was not updated after the conference championship.
LAST TIME OUT: On March 27, 2015 The Blue Devils ended their season on a high note at the NCGA Championship at UW-La Crosse. They posted one of the highest scores of the season
at the team competition on Friday night (187.850)
. Kenzie Hyde (So, Sunderland, Ont.) led the team with a noteworthy performance on the bars, tieing her career high score and receiving the highest mark of the Friday night competition with a 9.675. Jondahl managed to break the school record of a 9.7 (shared by Jondahl and All-American Naomi De Lara) on the vault with her score of 9.725 during the team competition. After advancing to the individual competition on Saturday night, Jondahl proved herself as a force to be reckoned with by earning the national floor title with a 9.8 and the bronze on vault with a 9.675. Both Jondahl and Hyde received All-American honors for their All-Around performances.
Kelly Huseman (So, Tampa, Fla.) performed well on bars, posting a career high of 9.45. On beam Schorzman received the highest score from the Blue Devils with a 9.675.

LAST YEAR'S BLUE DEVILS: UW-Stout began the 2015 season as underdog, yet significantly flourished to emerge as a NCGA Championship qualifying team. Over the course of the year they earned a team high score of 188.325. The Blue Devils broke the school record as a team on vault (47.800), beam (46.975), and the individual vault score (9.725) set by
Kaylee Jondahl.
Kenzie Hyde and Jondahl earned All-American honors for their performance at Nationals.

THE BLUE DEVIL COACH: UW-Stout: Becky Beaulieu is in her 11th season as the Blue Devil coach. Under Beaulieu's direction, UW-Stout gymnasts have earned 32 All-American awards and Beaulieu has coached national champions on the balance beam in 2008, the floor exercise in 2009, the uneven bars in 2010 and the vault and floor exercise in 2011. A UW-Stout gymnast has qualified and competed at the NCAA Division I regionals in 2009 at the University of Iowa and in 2010 at the University of Utah. Beaulieu, competing as Becky McDonnell at UW-La Crosse from 1997-2001, captured back-to-back NCGA floor exercise titles in 1998 and 1999. She established a since-eclipsed school floor exercise record score of 9.8. A seven-time NCGA All-American, she also garnered all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors nine times. The Eagles, for which she was a two-year captain, won two NCGA titles during her competing days. In 2012, Beaulieau was selected to the WIAC All-Time Gymnastics Team as the conference celebrated their 100th anniversary.
WIAC AND NCGA: The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) is made up of eight schools - UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stout, UW-Whitewater, Hamline University, Gustavus Adolphus College and Winona State University. These eight schools make up the NCGA West Region and are also members of the 14-school National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA). The other six schools are: SUNY-Brockport, SUNY-Cortland, Ithaca (NY) College, Springfield (Mass) College, Rhode Island College, and Ursinus (Pa) College.
