Archived VideoMENOMONIE (January 29, 2016) - It was almost a close call for UW-Stout Friday evening after Gustavus Adolphus was in the lead for three rotations. Fortunately, the Blue Devils bounced back to take the win by the tiniest of margins.
Stout kicked off the competition with five for five landed vaults.
Kelly Huseman (Jr. Tampa, Fla) emerged into the competition with a second place finish (9.45).
Kenzie Hyde (So. Sunderland, Ont.) then followed in third place with a 9.300. The rest of the line up managed to stay above a 9.000.
After starting the first rotation on a good note, the Blue Devils moved to the bars. Huseman shared the silver medal with
Brittani Lehmen (Fr. Howell, Mich) after they both posted a score of 9.200. Lehman beautifully landed her double layout dismount, which helped her earn a career high score.
Huseman continued a successful meet and came through for the team with a first place finish on a well-executed beam performance. She posted a score of 9.375. Hyde took the silver with a score of 9.200.
By far the best performance of the night went to junior
Kaylee Jondahl (Jr. Anoka, Minn) on the floor exercise. She wow'ed the crowd with a sky-high double pike as her opening tumbling pass. Despite the difficult judging, Jondahl posted a 9.700 which earned her a first place finish and the highest score from Stout this season. Hyde took a third place finish for her routine after posting a 9.35. In the end, Hyde earned a 36.500 all around which left her in second place.
Next weekend, the Blue Devils will be traveling to St. Paul to take on the Hamline Pipers. The meet will take place Friday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
