WIAC Championship
WHITEWATER (March 2, 2014) -
Katherine Prouty (Jr, Tigard, Ore) reclaimed a share of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) vault title she earned as a freshman, earning a share of the event at the 2014 event Sunday at UW-Whitewater.
As a team, Stout scored their second highest score of the season with a 184.350.
Prouty tied with the top vault score of 9.600 with UW-La Crosse's Sheree Romesburg. After hitting her top score in the third rotation, Prouty had to wait out the remaining five rotations to see if anyone would surpass her. The 9.60 matched her highest vault score of the season.
Prouty hit a 37.525 to finish second among 12 gymnasts in the all-around. Prouty was 12th in the uneven bars (9.325), 24th on the balance beam (9.275) and 25th on the floor exercise (9.325). The second place all-around finish matched her runner-up finish at last year's championship.
Kaylee Jondahl (Fr, Anoka, Minn) finished second on the floor exercise with a score of 9.625, getting edged out by La Crosse's Romesburg, who scored a 9.650. Jondall competed in the all-around, scoring a personal best 36.125.
As a team, Stout finished sixth with a score of 184.350. La Crosse won the team title (188.20), edging out host Whitewater (188.075). UW-Oshkosh was third (185.575), Hamline University fourth (185.525), Winona State fifth (185.225), UW-Eau Claire seventh (184.250 and Gustavus Adolphus eighth (177.80).
Kaitlynn Christensen (Sr, Ottawa, Ill) just missed the awards stand, finishing seventh on the floor exercise (9.525). Christensen was also Stout's highest scorer on the balance beam, placing 13th with a personal best score of 9.475.
Brandi McSweeney (So, Middletown, Ohio) scored a personal best on the floor exercise (9.425) and
Natasha Hansen (Jr, Bloomington, Minn) had a personal best on tjhe uneven bars (8.775)
Freshman
Kelly Huseman (Tampa, Fla) was selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
The meet is also the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) regional meet. The top three teams advance to the NCGA Championship, March 21-22 at Ithaca, NY, College. Individual qualifiers will be announced this week.
