Blue Devils shatter team record, Tulloch sets uneven bars record

Nebraska 196.850; Kentucky 195.200; Bridgeport 190.350; UW-Stout 188.650

LINCOLN, Neb. (February 23, 2014) - UW-Stout gymnasts combined for nine personal best scores, one individual event record, two team event records and obliterated the team record as they competed at the 24th Annual Masters Classic at the University of Nebraska.

Freshman Kasondra Tulloch set a new individual school record on the uneven bars, surpassing Meghan Hargens' mark of 9.725 set in 2009 with a mark of 9.750. Tulloch's previous best score on the bars of her young collegiate career was an 8.825. Hargen went on to win the national title on the uneven bars the next season.

The Blue Devils set a team record of 188.650, surpassing the mark of 185.70 that was set during the 2013 season. Stout also set new marks on the vault (47.575) and the uneven bars (47.400).

Tulloch's score on the uneven bars was the only Blue Devil mark to finish in the top 10 places, placing 10th. Nebraska, the eighth ranked team in the NCAA Division I dominated the meet, capturing the top marks on all four individual events (19685).   Kentucky, a Division I program, was second (195.20) and Bridgeport, a Division II program, was third (190.35). Stout finished fourth (188.65) in the four team field.

Katherine Prouty finished fifth of five in the all around with one her top career marks, scoring a 37.950. Prouty also had a personal best on the uneven bars (9.650).

Kelly Huseman competed in three events and set personal bests in all three of them - the vault (9.450), bars (9.175) and the balance beam (9.525).

Also reaching personal bests were: Kim Gulik on the uneven bars (9.475); Kaylee Jondahl on the vault (9.675) and the floor exercise (9.675); and Brandi McSweeney on the floor exercise (9.30).

Jessie DeZiel, the younger sister of UW-Stout's Brittany DeZiel, caputured the vault, the uneven bars and the all-around title. She was second on the floor exercise and fourth on the balance beam.

The Blue Devils will be at the WIAC Championship/NCGA Regional, Sunday, March 3 at UW-Whitewater.
