Blue Devils fall to top-ranked UW-Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT (February 22, 2014) - UW-Stevens Point shot well from the field and from the free throw line and that spelled a 72-49 defeat for UW-Stout Saturday at Bennett Court.

The top-ranked Pointers (24-1, 15-1 WIAC) shot 54.3 percent (25-46) from the floor and shot 81.8 percent (18-22)  from the free throw line.

The Pointers ran out to a 35-20 halftime lead and built up a lead of as much as 28 points late in the game.

Stout (12-13, 7-9 WIAC) shot 37.5 percent (18-48) from field goal range and 42.1 percent (8-19) from the line. The blue Devils had only one player score in double digits, Jimmy Whitehead (Sr, La Crosse), who led Stout with 11 points.

The Pointers' Tyler Tillema had 21 points to lead all scores and Trevor Hass added 12.

Stout will travel to UW-Platteville, Wednesday, Feb. 26 to participate in the first round of the WIAC Tournament.
