Blue Devils post highest score of season to defeat Eagles in dual meet

Prouty wins all-around, Stout scores 184.875

UW-Stout 184.875, UW-La Crosse 182.975

LA CROSSE (February 8, 2013) - UW-Stout posted their highest score of the season to defeat UW-La Crosse, Friday night, in a dual meet at Mitchell Hall. Katherine Prouty (So, Tigard, Ore.) took home top honors in the all-around and the Blue Devils defeated the Eagles, 184.875-182.975.

Prouty's all-around score of 37.500 was her highest of the season and her first place all-around finish was her first of the season. She took second place on the vault, despite a season-low 9.425, also marking the first time this season she failed to win the event. Prouty tied for second on both the balance beam (9.275) and the uneven bars (9.550), and scored a 9.250 to finish fourth on the floor exercise.

Brittany DeZiel (Jr, Rogers, Minn.) tied for second behind Prouty in the all-around with a total score of 36.925. La Crosse's Christa Booman matched DeZiel's score to earn a share of second. DeZiel finished second on the floor and third on the vault, doing so in each event with a score of 9.400.

Randi Schorzman (Fr, Buckley, Wash.) collected a pair of top five finishes, placing fourth in both events she competed in. Schorzman scored a 9.325 on the vault and a 9.225 on the balance beam.

Callie Counts (Fr, Greenback, Tenn.) took third place on the floor exercise with a 9.275 and finished sixth on the beam with a 9.050. Trailing Prouty on the bars were Sara Perez (Fr, Tigard, Ore.) and Genna Boeckmann (Sr, St. Cloud, Minn.), who both scored season highs to place fourth and fifth, respectively. Perez, who won the event in Stout's last meet, scored a 9.525, while Boeckmann scored a 9.475.

As a team, the Blue Devils set a school record on the uneven bars, smashing the former mark by a point with a tally of 46.950. The overall team score was the second best score in school history. Coach Becky Beaulieu was pleased with her team's performance.

"It was such a great meet," Beaulieu said.  "The girls broke the team bar record by over a point! They set the pace and the vibe right when we got off the bus and stepped foot in the gym. They are really working well together the way every coach wants their team to."

Four different La Crosse gymnasts each won an event. Nicole Mickelson won the vault (9.500), Christa Booman took first on the bars (9.650), Tegan Oare captured first on the beam (9.350), and Katie Palluck won the floor exercise (9.575).

Stout will return to action Friday, Feb. 15, when they compete in the Harley Davidson Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater in Milwaukee.
