THE BLUE DEVILS: As anticipated preseason, returning All-Americans
Brittany DeZiel and
Katherine Prouty have led the way for the Blue Devils this year. A year removed from tying for ninth in the all-around at the NCGA Championships, DeZiel and Prouty have each captured at least three first place finishes in Stout's first four meets. DeZiel, a junior, has won the all-around in three of the four meets, and took second in the other. She has won the floor exercise in the past two meets and won the uneven bars at Stout's John Zuerlein Invite. Prouty, a sophomore, has won the vault in Stout's past three meets after sitting out in the season opener. Her vault score of 9.650 at the Ozone Meet helped Stout set a new team record of 47.150 in the event. DeZiel took third (9.475) and
Randi Schorzman and
Callie Counts added identical scores of 9.450. Schorzman grabbed a second place finish earlier in the year, scoring a 9.275 on the beam in Stout's season opener at Gustavus Adolphus. Aside from DeZiel and Prouty,
Sara Perez and
Mesha Peterson are the only other Blue Devils to earn a top spot this season. Perez did so in their most recent meet, winning the uneven bars with a score of 9.350. Peterson won the vault at Gustavus, but an injury cut her season short after just one meet. |

2013 Season Stats
LAST TIME OUT: Four days after scoring her lowest score of the season, UW-Stout's
Sara Perez hit her top score of the season when she took the top spot on the uneven bars in a dual meet at UW-Eau Claire Jan. 29 in Eau Claire. Perez took first on the bars by posting a 9.350, far surpassing a 7.90 score at the John Zuerlein Invitational last week in Menomonie. Perez outpaced her second place competitor, Olivia Aschenbrenner, who scored a 9.20. Perez's previous collegiate best score was a 9.30, set at the Ozone Collegiate Classic, Jan. 19. As a team, Stout tallied their top score of the year in four events, topping 182 points for the first time this season, with a 182.750, but Eau Claire edged past the Blue Devils with a 183.525.
Katherine Prouty scored her lowest score of the year on the vault (9.550), but it was still strong enough to easily win first on the event.
Brittany DeZiel took the top spot on the floor exercise with a 9.475, her top floor score of the season. DeZiel also topped the charts in the all-around with a 37.100. The Blue Devils posted their highest team scores of the season on the uneven bars (45.40) and on the balance beam (45.80). Prouty and DeZiel tied for third on uneven bars with a 9.175. Stout captured four of the five top spots on the vault. In addition to Prouty taking the vault,
Callie Counts was third with a career-best 9.40, and DeZiel and
Chloe Hustad tied for fourth (9.375). Hustad was fifth on the floor (9.225) and
Randi Schorzman was fifth on the balance beam (9.30), a career-best.. |

UW-LA CROSSE: Like Stout, La Crosse has competed in four competitions in addition to an intrasquad meet. The Eagles have twice scored at least 184, doing so in their first meet at Iowa State and their most recent meet, Feb. 1. Freshman
Sheree Romesburg has been La Crosse's top all-arounder, and recently scored over 37 in the all-around for the first time this season, when La Crosse hosted the Gershon/McLellan Invite. Romesburg won the vault with a 9.400 and took second on the floor with a 9.625.
Christa Booman won the bars (9.550) and the beam (9.475) while
Katie Palluck won the floor exercise (9.675). La Crosse's team season-high team score of 184.525 was easily enough to defeat Winona State, UW-Oshkosh, and Gustavus Adolphus. Romesburg has potential to give
Brittany DeZiel some competition in the all-around. Her season high of 37.100 matches DeZiel's season low.
Katherine Prouty looks primed to win the vault again with just a single Eagle once matching even Prouty's season low on the event. Both Palluck and Romesburg have fared well on the floor, while Booman has been La Crosse's most consistent competitor on the beam and the bars. |
