THE BLUE DEVILS (6-1, 1-0 WIAC): UW-Stout will put their six game winning streak on the line today with Whitewater. The Blue Devils' lone loss came in the season opener, an 83-84 overtime affair to Mount Mercy. Stout is holding their opponents to 63.8 points per game while scoring 72.6, a difference of nine points. Stout also holds an edge when it comes to rebounding, pulling down 41.0 to 29.4 for the opponent. With two wins in the Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout last weekend, Stout improved its record to 5-1 heading into the conference season. Leading the way for the Blue Devils is senior guard
Jimmy Whitehead, who is averaging 19.4 ppg and 5.3 rpg. Whitehead, the reigning WIAC player of the week, has been the difference maker late in games, averaging 11.7 points and shooting 69 percent. He has scored at least 10 points in the second half of six of the Blue Devils' first seven games.
Alex Oman has also been filling it up for Stout, at the clip of 14.2 ppg. Oman leads Stout in assists (16) and steals (7). Rounding out the Blue Devils averaging double digits in points is
Aaron Jenny, averaging a career-high 13.3 ppg to go along with a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per contest. Jenny has been a consistent scoring threat, hitting double figures in five of seven games, including a career best 24 against UW-Superior.
Adam Wadzinski and
Brett Ahsenmacher have provided a scoring touch off the bench, as Wadzinski has hit (8-20) of his three-point tries and Ahsenmacher has hit 47 percent (7-15) of his attempts from beyond the arc.
Josh Kosloske and
Debonair Townsend have been the guys down low for Stout, with Kosloske matching Jenny with 6.0 rpg and Townsend leading the team in blocked shots with five. UW-Stout is receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. . |Â

Story and Stats
SCOUTING UW-WHITEWATER (5-0, 0-0 WIAC) : The Warhawks are off to typically strong start, winning their first five games by an average of nearly 23 points per game. Ranked No. 4 in the latest d3hoops.com top 25, their closest game so far was a 73-62 victory over then No. 17 St. Norbert College. Last season, Whitewater finished second in the conference and are predicted to finish second again this season, just behind UW-Stevens Point. Leading the way for the Warhawks is junior guard KJ Evans, who is averaging 16.0 ppg and 9.2 rpg. He has been the team's leading scorer twice and scored under 15 points just twice in addition to being the team's leading rebounder in four of five games. Quadrell Young leads the team in assists (17), steals (9), and blocks (4), to go along with 10.2 ppg. Guard Eric Bryson is one of only six Warhawks who has connected from downtown this season, hitting five of 11 attempts from beyond the arc. Bryson is third on the team in scoring and rebounding, with 11.4 ppg. Reggie Hearn, scoring at an 14.2 ppg clip, rounds out the Warhawks averaging double figures in scoring. 2013-14 Statistics
LAST TIME THEY MET: The teams played three times last year, including in the WIAC tournament semi-final game, where the Warhawks took a 64-59 win to end Stout's season. Stout trailed throughout much of the game, but twice tied the score in the waning minutes. During the season, the Warhawks took a nearly identical win, 64-58, and 58-55.

THE COACHES: UW-Stout: Eddie Andrist (169-159 at Stout, 423-354 overall) is in his 14th year as the coach of the Blue Devils, and his 24th overall in the collegiate ranks. Andrist led the Blue Devils to their first NCAA Division III appearance five seasons ago when Stout advanced to the second round. Andrist coached at Mount Senario for 11 seasons and won three national championships. Andrist spent two stints coaching international basketball, working with the country of Qatar. |
UW-Superior:
Paul Eberhardt (11-20) is in his second season as head coach of the Yellow Jackets. Last year, his first with Superior, Eberhard led the team to a 9-17 record and a spot in the WIAC playoffs. Before coming to Superior, he served as Athletic Director and Dean of Students at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. |
UW-Whitewater: Pat Miller (262-79) has been the head coach at Whitewater since the 2001-02 season. Over the course of his tenure, he has led the Warhawks to a first or second place finish in the WIAC in nine of 12 season, capturing four WIAC coach of the year honors. In 2011-12, Miller led the team to its third national championship and his winning percentage (.768) ranks 1st in school history and 4th in WIAC history. Before becoming head coach, Miller was an assistant coach for the previous eight season.
CONFERENCES: Stout, Superior and
Whitewater are all members of nine team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville and UW-River Falls.
UP NEXT: Next Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Blue Devils will travel to UW-River Falls to take on the Falcons at 7 pm, their last game of the semester before traveling to Florida on Dec. 28-30 for the Land of Magic Tournament in Daytona Beach.
