CHANDLER, Arizona (March 12, 2012) - UW-Stout made it five wins in a row with an 18-11, 10-4, sweep of Dordt College Monday.
Trailing 5-3 heading into the bottom of the second inning of the opener, Stout (5-1) exploded for eight runs in the inning.
Ben Yaucher (Jr, Janesville) keyed the inning with a three-run double as Stout sent 12 players to the plate.
Ben Vavra (Fr, Chippewa Falls),
Chris Sill (Jr, Wabasha, Minn) and
Jake Duske (Sr, Montrose, Minn) each collected a double in the inning.
Stout collected a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, then added five more, including
AJ Yusten's (Sr, Zumbrota, Minn) two-run home run and Stout held an 18-6 lead. Dordt scored two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Dan Britts (Jr, Nekoosa) was credited with the win, pitching two innings of shutout relief ball.
Yusten had five RBI in the contest, while Yaucher finished with three RBI. Vavra, Duske and
Jon Schoch (Sr, Chippewa Falls) each ad a pair of RBI. Duske added a triple.
In the nightcap, Stout spotted Dordt a 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the third before the Blue Devil offense let the cork off again, this time with a five run fourth and four run sixth.
Vavra smacked a two-run double in the fourth and Duske followed up with a two-run triple, his second triple of the day to bring his season total to four.
Santiago Morales (Jr, West St. Paul, Minn) had a two run double in the sixth and
Ryan Gangestad (Fr, Maple Grove, Minn) and Yaucher each drove in a run. Morales and Duske each drove in three runs in the game.
Zach Kiminski (So, Brooklyn Park, Minn) worked six innings for the win, scattering eight hits, allowing three runs and striking out eight, while walking none.
On the day, Stout pounded out 28 total runs, 16 in the first game.
Stout is off on Tuesday, March 13 and resume play Wednesday, March 14 when they meet Macalester College.
