Aaron Jenny, Alex Oman provide impetus for Blue Devil win

Box Score UW-Stout 64, UW-Platteville 55

PLATTEVILLE (December 8, 2012) - Aaron Jenny (Jr, Spicer, Minn) and Alex Oman (Jr, Lake Elmo, Minn) provided a one-two punch in the first half to give UW-Stout a lead they would not relinquish on their way to a 64-55 win at UW-Platteville Saturday.

Both Jenny and Oman tallied 11 points in the first half, but they tag-teamed the effort.

Jenny almost single-handedly erased a 10-point first half Platteville lead as he scored seven points with a pair of lay-ups and a three-pointer to pull Stout to within two points at 13:37. Jenny scored his 11 points of the first half in the first 12 minutes of the game, but most of them came in a nine minute outburst.

When Jenny's run was over, Oman took over, scoring his first points of the game with around eight minutes left in the first half and went on to score his 11 first half points with a pair of three-pointers, a layup and three free throws.

Oman would go on to continue his run throughout the game, finishing with a game-high 23 points, hitting 7-of-11 from the floor, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and 5-of-8 from the line. Jenny would toss in only one more bucket in the second half, but finished shooting a very efficient 6-of-7 from the floor.

The Blue Devils (8-1, 2-1 WIAC) held a 27-25 halftime lead and only once let the Pioneers (7-2, 2-1 WIAC) get as close as three points in the second half, holding as much as a 14 point lead when Oman banked in a three-pointer with three minutes left on the clock.

Both teams got the vast majority of scoring from their starters, but Stout's bench outscored the Pioneers' bench, 12-3.

The Pioneers were led by Jim Stocki with 14 points and Eric Gerber with 13 points. Platteville was limited to 44.7 percent shooting from the floor (21-47) and 26.3 percent from three-point range (5-19).

Erik Olson (Sr, Buffalo, Minn) had another fine night finding his teammates. The Blue Devil all-time assists leader dished off seven passes and added seven points.

Stout hit on 53.8 percent from the floor (21-39), 54.5 percent from three-point range (6-11) - both their best shooting percentages of the season - and 64 percent from the line (16-25). The 16 free throws made was their most of the season.

Stout will close out first semester play when they host UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
