Box Score UW-Stout 69, UW-Superior 54
SUPERIOR (December 5, 2012)- With his third assist of the game early in the second half, point guard
Erik Olson (Sr, Buffalo, Minn.) became UW-Stout's all-time assist leader as the Blue Devils defeated the UW-Superior Yellow Jackets, 69-54.
Olson, who finished with 6 assists on the night, now has 362 assists for his career, passing Jeremy Liebfried, who recorded 358 from 1996-2000. Coming out of halftime needing only one more assist to pass Liebfried, Olson wasted no time as he found
Alex Oman (Jr, Lake Elmo, Minn.) under the hoop for the layup, giving him sole possesion of the record. Olson also shared team-high rebounding honors with six and had three steals for the Blue Devils.
Stout (7-1, 1-1) led nearly the whole game, after four lead changes in the first two minutes. Superior (2-5, 0-2) kept it close initially, but with the score tied 9-9 about four minutes in, Stout would go on a 12-2 run that put them up for good.
Superior was able to put together a run late in the half, but the Blue Devils held off the charge, never letting them closer than five points. At the half the score was 32-21, Stout.
Turnovers would prove to play a huge role in the game, as Stout was able to force the Yellow Jackets into 15, including 10 steals. The Blue Devils turned the ball over only six times in comparision.
The Blue Devils also outrebounded the Yellow Jackets, 39-33 overall and 12-6 on the offensive end.
In the second half, Stout came out firing, never letting the Yellow Jackets come closer than six points. An11-1 run about midway through the half gave Stout a 16 point advantage that Superior would cut to single digits just once more all game.
Oman led four Blue Devils in double digits, with a game-high 20 points on 9-16 shooting, including 2-6 from beyond the arc. He also pulled down five boards and came away with a pair of steals.
Thomas Scholle-Malone (Sr, Milwaukee) went 6-8 from the field, scoring 12 points off the bench for the Blue Devils.
Josh Kosloske (Jr, Oakfield) had 11 on 4-8 shooting and Jarvis Regland (Jr, Milwaukee) added 10 on 4-10 shooting. Kosloske also tied for the team lead in rebounding, grabbing six including three on the offensive end.
This game was the first of a two-game road trip as the Blue Devils will travel to Platteville next to face the Pioneers on Saturday, December 8. Stout will return home on Wednesday December 12 against UW-Riverfalls.
