MENOMONIE, Wis. (December 10, 2011) - UW-Stout hung close with Platteville deep into the second half, but a late 14-4 Pioneer run to close out the game left the Blue Devils on the wrong end of a 63-53 finish, Saturday evening at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers' (5-4, 1-2 WIAC) late surge, which started at a 49-49 tie with four minutes to play, was sparked by a Matt Weik three-pointer, and featured five points from the game's leading scorer, B.J. Litz, who finished with 17 points on the evening on 6-of-8 shooting.

The matchup was closely contested throughout the evening, featuring five ties and six lead changes.  Platteville jumped out to the first substantial lead, grabbing a 9-2 advantage six minutes into the game.  Stout (3-6, 0-3 WIAC) stormed back, however, grabbing their first lead with ten minutes to play in the period.  Weik ended the half with a jumper at the buzzer, and the Pioneers took a six point lead into the locker rooms.

Stout gained a little momentum midway through the second half when Jarvis Ragland (So, Milwaukee) threw down a dunk off a steal and assist by Aaron Jenny (So, New London, Minn.).  The dunk tied the game at 40, and shortly thereafter, Carter Ciolkosz (Fr, Maplewood, Minn.) made a bucket that gave his team their first lead since 10 minutes to go in the first half.

Down by five with five minutes to play, Erik Olson single handedly went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 49, but it would be the last run Stout could gather up, as the Pioneers ran away with the victory.

Tim Butina (So, Woodbury, Minn.) led Stout with 12 points and, alongside Ciolkosz, pulled down a team-high five rebounds.  Jake Manning collected eight boards for Platteville to lead all players.

Stout attempted more shots than their opponent, which has been the case for the past three games, but all three resulted in losses.  In those three games, Stout has shot a combined 34 percent, while their opponents have connected on nearly 57 percent of their attempts.  After a 3-1 start, the loss marks Stout's fifth straight, and keeps them winless in WIAC play.  Over that five-game skid, Stout has failed to score more than 54 points in a game.  Additionally, they have failed to score 60 points in seven of their nine games on the year.

The Blue Devils travel to UW-River Falls this Wednesday, Dec. 14 to close out the first semester, and head into Winter break.
